    Welcome

Don't forget that althought you might be able to get to the shops, the deliveries may not be able to get there to re-stock so its still worth having a few extra bits in :)

    Thanks for the welcome.

Our milkman amazed me last year and never missed a delivery even though the road was thick ice for 2 weeks. We always have a stash of pasta, cereal, baked beans etc, bread and milk in the freezer, frozen veg some meat/fish. I buy potatoes by the sack from this time of year (note to self job for next week) and have leeks growing in the front garden. I find the Lidl 2 pack of part cooked bagettes really handy to have. They are about 40p a pack and last a long time.

We have bags of road salt to the ready, a new log store stacked with logs, sack upon sack of kindling - all logs and kindling from the garden, friends, finds etc.

    I love getting prepared :rotfl:

Hello Dustykitten - ooooh Crittall metal windows!!!! Gt rid of them ASAP - they are the devils invention! Welcome to the best forum in the world. Sounds like you have got all the right attitudes!
I have a conession - I bid and won on ebay what I thought was going to be a good but second hand pair of sheepskin boots.....but hey are only lined with what I believe they call faux fur. I am so disappointed - £14 more or less down the drain- if I knew how to do the sad faced emoticons I would do one now - boo hoo.

Just popped in to say that I saw Primark had some really thick leggings last week between £6-£10. Might be worth it if it gets really cold like last year!;)
Also have been seeing deicers in Tesco's for under a pound.

I cannot believe the weather recently. a day or two ago, it was so cold and gloomy I actually had to take my coat out for the first time this year! Saw my gloves in my pocket and gave them a wash! Now onto the other prep!

    Hi tootifrooti
I dont think I can return them - it said they were 'leather fur lined' and I think I should have asked a question. They are real suede but I just wish I had kept my pennies and put towards some real sheepskin one - rash as usual thats me.

Could you put them on Ebay yourself?

have a look and see if they do refunds - you could return them as they dont fit? as I said before you would at least only lose your postage. or as CH27 says put them back on ebay at the same price - we all make rash buys so dont be too hard on yourself - just try to salvage what you can.

Splodger - I can't think what just now, but I'm sure the blankets could be better used than stopping draughts at the bottom of the doors. Could you use them for lining the curtains or something and use something less useful as a draught excluder?

Sorry, I may have the wrong end of the stick as I'm in a hurry. Kitchen still in a horrendous mess and I absolutely must get on.

i actually hang the blankets - (well nail) over doorways and in the hall - as i have dogs and i can't really shut them up in one room - so i don't like to shut doors between rooms they have right to roam ;) - not that i have many rooms actually - i am reg disabled i live in a LA bungalow that is really small

the blankets as curtains really worked last year - certainly kept the bulk of the draft out anyway

my biggest hurdle i have to solve / tackle is the floors - because i have dogs and because of my med condition - i don't have carpets (can't afford anyway) so the floors are really cold in the winter (seventies horrible floor tile things) but i find it easier to sweep up the dog hair etc on these horrid tiles than to try and hoover rugs / carpets (i dislocate when i hoover :() so i might ask my neighbours to keep back their newspapers each week - instead of recycling them - or get card boxes from village shop - just to lay on the floor during the cold spells - i don't care what it looks like - the place is a tip anyway (and yes - i am being serious - before someone asks)
saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year
