  • I think I must be slowly turning into a squirrel.... The children were at school today and I had an appointment in town this afternoon. On my way home I collected the children and we walked home in the cold wind, we walked in the door with our cheeks rosy red and our hair looking like we'd be draged through a bush backwards...

And on walking through the door, the smell hit us..... We were like the "Bisto kids" with our noses in the air....mmmmmmm.

Before I went out I had put on a chicken casserole in the slow cooker, veggies were prepared and waiting to be cooked, potatoes ready and waiting to be cooked too....Ahhhh Bliss :D:D:D.

The squirrel part is all about the fact that I found a box with a lid, a photocopy paper box, a nice size and I have squirrelled away some chocolate, chocolate biscuits, more yummy biscuits, sweeties, marshmellows, crackers, nuts, popcorn and so on for a rainy/windy/cold/frosty day. Every now and then I add a little something special to the box.

Not quite yet, but once the weather has turned dreadful enough and we are coming in late with cold feet, tired and just want to flump in front of the telly, we can get out our little box and have a nibble of something nice.... I'm not sure about the teeth but the bushy tail will keep me warm.... :D
  • I've made chocolate cakes for the freezer - two so far. I bought a nice shiny chest freezer this week, before this we were a family of five using one pitiful tiny freezer resulting in lots and lots of shopping trips. Finally convinced OH to put the electric supply to the shed last week and now have a lovely new freezer to fill so it's doubling up with recipes all the way for me - lots of stocking up to be done :D

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
  • My winter preparation plans for this weekend - getting fit. Hopefully going to go swimming at some point. Beyond that, if the weather is good I'll get the curtains washed one final time before winter. Keep up the good work with the winter prep, everyone. :) Might also make some meatballs for the freezer, too.

You can't bet these for keeping warm http://www.marksandspencer.com/Heat-Generating-Length-Thermal-Leggings/dp/B003X0JA9G?_encoding=UTF8&categoryNodeID=42967030&node=42967030&mnSBrand=core&ref=sr_1_4&qid=1285339702&sr=1-4&rh=n%3A42966030%2Ck%3AThermal%2Cn%3A42967030%2Cp_10%3ABlack&page=1

I've had all types over the years, silk, ski thermals, primark, expensive trekking ones but these are soooooo warm :D and soft too, worth the extra £'s if like me you feel the cold when others say its fine!
As my lumbago is playing up I'm wearing them now, the extra heat keeps my muscles warm which helps stop the pain.

Was thinking they'd be awful ugly things but they're actually quite nice :D Will definitely have to invest as I get awfully cold inner legs and could wear these instead of normal leggings!

And props to M&S for having a model with human legs ;)

  • Thanks to all who have posted comments about thermals. I have a couple of old vests and am looking to get some new ones, and also maybe some leggings. Dont have an aldi nearby, but might try m&s online.

Can you get thermal vest tops, long sleeved tops and short sleeved tops which are plain/do not have a pattern?
  • Has anyone used standard cotton leggings/tshirts etc instead of thermals?

I tend to layer anyway but tbh normally have a warm house so am interested in if they work as well.

    Thanks
    Put the kettle on. ;)
  • For anyone who is like me and can't tolerate elastic waistbands due to IBS, I recommend getting some knit ballet warmup trousers as an alternative to woolly tights, thermals, leggings, long johns, etc. They have drawstring waistbands. Bliss.

I am so, so happy I discovered these, because I now have something I can wear to keep me warm without it causing me extreme pain, bloating and discomfort. :j

I can't think of any other thread on any forum where I could get such comprehensive information about thermals! Thanks a million all of you! :T:T:T Well it looks like M&S wins the vote ... which in a way is unfortunate because they are in my bad books for not taking back a pair of trousers that went so saggy after one wash that they're useless to me. Haven't decided if I will boycott them or not - will have to see what head office say when I write to them.

Hope you can come - we could compare our thermals! :rotfl:

Oh I love that idea - but I'm not sure I could wait for an emergency!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
