Preparing for winter II

Can anyone tell me where I could get a knitting pattern for an adult female hooded cardigan with pockets? Also can anyone tell me where I could get black chenille wool to knit it or wool which is soft on the skin and does not make you itchy but keeps you nice and warm?0

Thought I'd join in as the thread inspired me to start prepping -I never have in the past, and always get caught out one morning with a frozen car and no scraper/de-icer etc!
So far I have:- Swapped to my winter duvet - lovely heavy goose down one.
- Put away bikinis etc, got thermals out (once it's cold enough for long johns, they are on till Spring! Well, during the day, and I do wash them obviously!)
- Restocked sock drawer - trainer socks away, thick socks out (in winter I wear two pairs of socks every day)
- Checked heaters
- New gloves for the kids (poundshop - I will be buying many replacements I'm sure!)
- Blankets, jumpers and winter coats out
- Candles and torch under the sink, stocked up on batteries
- Bought 4kg of value salt - shops were empty when I needed it last year
- Checked my car box and made list of things needed (new scraper for one)
- Checked food stocks and made list (need UHT milk etc)
- Found and washed a door curtain in the shed, tried to fit but I need more curtain hooks and they are sooo expensive! Might try and scrounge a few
- Finally (and most importantly) I have my fleece Honchos (http://www.festivalkit.co.uk/products.asp?Cat_ID=6) DDs have a poncho each, I have both the fleece poncho and the fleece trousers. Unbelievably warm, they go straight on when I get home from work and keep me well toasty. You can keep your slankets etc!
I looked for £2 fleeces to line my curtains at Tescos but struck out.
As I walk to work, I'm looking to buy some boots suited to winter abuse! They need to be warm, waterproof and comfortable. I have some german army boots which are all of that but unfortunately they suffer from sole detachment! Don't know why, it's happened to 3 pairs but only to me.
I've seen fleece lined 'muckers' boots that look perfect (a bit like this http://www.cottontraders.co.uk/content/ebiz/cottontraders/invt/aq10355/aq10355_l.jpg), just need to find the best price. There are some for £20 on the market but I don't want them to fall apart...
This is my first winter in my nice new flat after 3 hard winters in the awful place before (gaps in windows, no insulation, intermittent central heating, unbearably cold kitchen and bathroom) so I'm quite looking forward to hibernating
Unfortunately I have to use my car at 6:30am in the week, and do regular long journeys so I am at the mercy of ungritted roads and inappropriate driving - but at least I'll be safe in the knowledge that I have a sleeping bag and some cereal bars in the boot! :rotfl:0 - Swapped to my winter duvet - lovely heavy goose down one.

I've a feeling I saw one on the Lion Brand website - they have a pattern finder, will have a look for you. Oh well, their website is down but if you want to try later it's https://www.lionbrand.com and go to the pattern finder section.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I've never had thermals but I think I'd like to get some for this winter. For those of you have them, how many pairs is enough do you think? And do you get the tops and bottoms or is a vest enough?Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

It depends on what you want them for. I usually only wear the leggings for going to football matches or any time I'm going to be standing about outside for long periods, the rest of the time my legs are warm enough wearing normal trousers or a skirt with tights (and maybe socks under my boots!)
I think the short sleeved t-shirt style or vests are the best all rounders, I find the long sleeved tops to have quite tight cuffs so aren't that good for any time you might want to roll your sleeves up for a few minutes - washing up or whatever.
They do dry pretty quickly, which is great. I just have the one pair of leggings and 3 tops - one long sleeved, one vest, one t-shirt and that's plenty for me.0 -

Thank you for all the info Alec! :A
I'm glad you said that about the long-sleeved ones cos I was considering them but I've had that exact problem with other tops. I won't be at any football matches but it might be worth getting a pair of long johns anyway I reckon. And I'll go for the tshirt type of tops. 3 sounds like a good number.
I'll have to start pricing them now. I like the ones in M&S but I'll bet they're more expensive than other shops!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Flip, just looked at the p and p for those honchos and it's £6.25. That is a bit prohibitive to me. Anyone know were else sells them?Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
