i use rosehips as a tomato sauce substitute, they make lovely bolagnaise!"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0

Red doe - yes, you can burn pallets. I did last year. I cut them up with the chainsaw and made a lot of kindling out of them and then used the chunks as logs. Some people say not to burn them, but the chimney sweep was very happy with the state of my chimney. The only thing is that because they are generally pine, they burn very fast and hot, which is why I mostly used them to get the fire going or give it a boost, and then used logs or coal for a longer, slower burn.0

I'd never have thought of that! Wow..what do they taste like?
unsweetened rosehips are like slightly rose flavoured not so tangy tomatoes!
they really add something special to anything where you'd use a tomato base so you could make soup with them, spag bog sauce, pizza sauce etc. as soon as i clear a bit more space in my freezer i'm going to go pick some as we've tons of them nearby and i now have some massive stockpots and a big new sieve so i really have no excuse not to get as many as possible. no one touched any at all last year here and the bushes are so thick and deep there will be plenty left for wildlife that i can't reach
they are also nice mixed with apples for fruit leathers!0 -

yes i'd agree with that too... and like i said before, don't worry about the nails they'll just fall out in the grate... not sure i'd use any sections with with nails in a stove but in an open fire it's fine! coal mixed with pallets makes for a nice fire!0 -
anyone looking for tights who normally wear leggings etc or just want some tights to wear under trousers this coming winter, PRIMARK are selling some thick tights that have like a fleece lining on the inside for £3.50
Are they for adults? they sound really nice and cheaper than more thermals.0 -

but the people on these boards are lovely. Have never had a cross word with anyone and they are all here offering advice with their hearts and ears wide open. Im sure if I ever met half of them we'd be like long lost friends. I think half the posters on here have most definitely helped and watched me grow up - being that I joined when I was 18, just had Ben, and had a house - they saw me through so much and now look - here I sit at 27, with a 7 year old and a 13 month old (yes shes really that old now!) :rotfl: Im sure thats just aged half the members too! But they are angels and someone is always around at stupid o clock when you need them most. :A:A:A:A:A:A:A:A:A
I can't believe that Ben is 7 years old now, Sammy! How time flies.Felines are my favourite

*waves at wildling in Lochaber*
Hiya! Yes, we had that storm too, plus lately we've been getting gales off the Minch, quite early this year. Good to know re driftwood and trees being washed up, shoreline's a bit rocky here but we keep our eyes peeled. Where I used to live they had very strict rules about not taking anything above the tideline as that meant someone had claimed it and it belonged to them.
I think you have more trees in general than us...it's a bit like a moonscape here, lol .
Re the rosehips, that's really good to know, that's one thing we have in plenty here!"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -
Morning, it was so chilly yesterday morning that I contemplated putting the heating on. I didn't, if I put it on now I'd never get through the Winter when the temperature drops further.
Managed to pop to Ikea on Sunday, LO now has new matching furniture, gutted through all his clothes on Saturday and took a note of what was needed. Managed to pick him up two fleeces in Next aswell with my £20 voucher.
Had a look at flannellete sheets in Dunhelm Mill and they were more expensive than John Lewis
Also bought a 10.5 tog duvet for my LO in Home Bargains. He currently has a toddler quilt which won't be warm enough for him this Winter.
Christmas presents for LO ordered from Very (20% off toys) and also ordered my Winter jacket.
My mission now, is to find Winter boots for the LO, found some gorgeous leather Timberland style boots in Sports Direct but the smallest was a C10 and I need a C8.
I had to laugh, over the weekend we had a friend from Leicester staying with us. He sat with umpteen layers on all weekend because he said 16 degrees was cold. He said he was used to temperatures in England being 22 degrees . Was it cruel that I refused to put the heating on? :rotfl:
Also, his face when he sampled some good old Irn Bru - picture :rotfl:.0
