Preparing for winter II

Greetings fellow winter preppers
Just got back from town and had a good morning so far.
Went to Boots and with my clubcard I bought a bottle of Benylin chesty coughs, 2 packs of Kleenex Balsam tissues boxes and a can of hairspray for me - yes I know the hairspray doesn't really count as a winter thing but if it is damp outside my hair goes into frizz mode and I end up looking like Crystal Tips! I did not have to spend a solitary penny for that - chuffed :T
Poundland - Anadin and Nurofen paracetamol, bought. Beechams cold and flu capsules, Strepsils and a box of Beechams hot blackcurrant cold and flu drink sachets. Bought some paint brushes as well and one for shed and fences, which will do for next year. They also had the Kleenex wrapped handbag sized tissues in there as well. We use those a bit throughout the winter and OH likes them because he can have them in the car and his pockets when at work without being intrusive like a big box is. Anyway, 10 in a pack for a quid. Really pleased with those. So all of that will now be put up for Winter!
Wilkinsons - a tin of Hammerite paint was £17.00  couldn't believe it, but the one I wanted there was only one left and it had a big dent it in so I asked for a reduction and got another £3.25 knocked off the price :T well happy with that as a dent in the tin is not going to affect it's performance! Got a pack of paint brushes to do the wraught iron gates with as well. They are so cheap I don't mind throwing them away at that price after I have used them
Next - bought a pair of slippers which are toasty warm and have a sturdy good thick sole to them, machine washable too.
Primark was useless, crap selection of slippers in and no fleecey socks - not that I am desparate for the fleece socks at the moment but I thought I would look. Bought a new water bottle with leopard print cover so uber soft and silky to the touch.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Ooh just discovered by accident that if I position my laptop's charger transformer right, I can put my feet on it, and it keeps them lovely and warm!
Please be careful if you do this.
I only mention this because my daughter was on her laptop the other week and the transformer got too hot and melted the wire. The bit still connected to the mains was sparking next to her on the sofa.
We are very lucky she wasn't hurt.0 -
snow boots ordered for the little people
hat/scarf/glove bag all washed and refreshed0 -
Boots have arrived (well they came yesterday)
Another Christmas present was bought yesterday (determined to be prepared in case of the weather turning)
Picked up 4 packets of savoury rice from Home Bargains yesterday for 39p each, I figured that it would be good to have a store of these for quick meals in the Winter.0 -

Rainy Days I get 12 handbag packets of tissues for 99p from dunelm - the small packets are so handy - you can have 1 everywhere!!!
Also in £land it might be worth stocking up (IF anyone is prone to them that is) on cold sore treatment - £lands one is called Virosorb and its the same as Zovirax at 5.99!
I am not sure if I should get something to cook on/heat up things - touch wood we very seldom get power cuts and I am a woos with the tins of gas - any other suggestions?
toots xxPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

Are they the Kleenex ones??
Hi Fran welcome - I don't have children so hence the reason for not thinking too much about them but yes that is a good idea. Jigsaws are also a brilliant thing to have around for kids as well!
Edited to say that I have since painted the small single gate into the garden, all I am now left with is the big double gates which are going to take some doing. So I am kind of thinking of doing a gate each day, probably do one on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday which won't leave me feeling too achy!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Afternoon Preppers!
Well I've had a busy morning
Got windscreen wash in Asda for £2 for a large bottle. Also stocked up on some tins for the kitchen cupboard and some dishwasher salt for the path.
I've also cleared out the garage:
Found deicer and two scrapers - now in glove compartment
Small wind up torch - now in glove compartment
Fold up snow shovel - now in boot
Jump leads, fluorescent jacket and another torch now in boot
Large snow shovel is now near the garage door along with the soft broom for clearing off the car and my winter work boots (these came from Canada and are good for minus 40 degree temperatures)
I've also got a spare Snuggie that I'm going to put in the car.As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -

actually speaking of that, why not add a kids kit to the car emergency box. if you can keep the wee ones busy for a bit whilst you're trying to figure out how to get out of being stuck or if you're stuck in a traffic jam due to bad weather it could keep them too preocuppied to notice the cold...for a little while.
might i also suggest something that could be urinated into, if you were to get stuck in the car during inclement weather you don't want to have to get out of the car and let all the colder air in then expose yourself just to have a wee... just a thought0 -

these are one of my more recent little luxuries. i normally just use toilet paper but i find it's so convenient to have these as i can stick a pack in my pj pocket, the pockets on my dressing gown, have one on my desk, in my bag etc last time i bought a 15 pack for a quid from poundstretchers, lidl do a cheap 10 pk as well, i should buy a few before the cold sets in i'm nearly out!0
