Regarding the temperature at which to keep a house, i always go for around 20 degrees. We may be able to live with a lower temeperature, but one thing i consider is the house itself. If it is too cold then as we live in a Victorian terrace i worry about damp problems so find around 20 degrees is a happy medium to keep the house warm and dry as well as us!

Desperately need new curtains before winter in our lounge, i washed mine and they shrank by 4 inches! That was following the care wash label too! Hoping a charity shop will come up trumps at some point, but a i need two matching pairs i'm not too hopefull! Really can't afford shop prices at the mo though.

    Hi,
Notice you said you need new curtains, have you tried going to car boot? I go Holcot most weeks and see lots of curtains there

oooo i hadn't noticed the nights drawing - but i can't wait! I love the short days and long nights.

I got myself some new jimjams from primark today. Didn't look for anything else really.

Sunset here tonight at 20:36 according to the BBC.

Did a little picking round the garden to pop in the freezer - beans, blackberries and last pickings of rhubarb.
Had tesco delivery as big voucher to use, now at stage where cupboards are bursting and food is piling up under the kitchen chair. Really need to declutter my cupboards so I have room to store (underbeds already full of junk).

Love Christmas so looking forward to winter. DS2 moaned that my tesco delivery didn't have many treats in it. I told him that I was stocking up basics for the winter and lets face it - Christmas is the one time when the house is jampacked with chocolate anyway :D

I go to Holcot car boot too! Love that you don't have to get up at silly o'clock for that one. I got some curtains yesterday, 2 pairs for £60.00 not ideal and more than i wanted to pay, but they go perfectly with my newly decorated lounge, and as it is my Birthday in a couple of weeks any money i get for it i'll put towards them.

I have really noticed the nights drawing in as half of our street lighting is no longer being switched on!!! On the plus side it now means that when there are no clouds around, you can see the stars really clearly BUT when it does become frosty, there will be no street lamp worth parking underneath (hoping to spend less time defrosting in the morning)!

I let the dog out of the back door this morning so he could go for a wee before he goes for his walks (he is a 13 years old a black labrador and he cannot hold his water for any ength of time when he wakes up so we let him let out then we can have a coffee or two then he goes for his walks) and there was a chill in the air. It is blowing quite windy at the moment and there is a definite autumnal chill about it :)

I am going to pop into Morrisons today on the way back from the cemetry to get those soups! Thanks for the heads up on it :):T

I'm getting there slowly, got 5litres of screen wash in Tesco for £1.50, it was half price so got two. Got my snow shovel, and finished panting the fence and shed. Outside is basically done, just the car to organise now. I'm wondering is winter tyres worth it?

Bought a slim chest freezer and got it delivered yesterday, I'm so reliant on batch cooking and buying discounted meat that I never have room in my freezer, will be great having this extra space this winter.

House is well prepared, it's a new build and was well insulated last year, just stocking up on coal and wood. We're in credit with the oil company so will be fit for filling the tank anytime during the winter.

Just boots and coats for the kids to go. Am trying to find an all in one snow suit for 20 month old, and a decent regatta style 3 in 1 for 8 year old but they're all so expensive even now in August.

I'm looking forward to be cooking stews and casseroles again and warm winter puddings. I seem to drop a few pounds in weight in winter as I eat porridge and good wholesome dinners, so less snacking in-between.

We don't normally cook meals ahead of time and freeze, as even though we have 2 small freezers (one in fridge/freezer and one small separate freezer), we still don't seem to ever have room in it! I think it needs a huge reorganisation over the next week or so, in preparation for winter. Then maybe I can do a few casseroles and such ahead of time to freeze.

Or at the very least get some of the prep work (such as chopped onions, mushrooms, and peppers) frozen in bags again. That helped a lot last winter, but has fallen by the wayside over the summer months.

We have £20 worth of vouchers for Iceland, so we're still keeping an eye out for something interesting to purchase with them. LOL I've thought it might be nice to use them before Christmas when they have all their nice nibbles to freeze. Yummmmm

Just making my list, slowly, and trying to do some of it here or there as I go. At this rate, it'll take me by January to get it done!

DH & I need to pop over to MIL's house next weekend and sit down with her to see if she needs anything sorted out before winter. DH helps her with repairs and such, and she doesn't has central heating in her house, so we want to make sure everything is all set for her.
