Our bin for the garden waste is minging but it is not near the house (further up the garden by the shed) and there is no ruddy point clenaing that out!
Thanks rainydays, I do clean it out and have done but at the mo I cant get it through the garage as its full of stuff and I'm keeping it at the front, as soon as I get it through to the back I'll give it a good sort out with the hose and brush.

My sister has just signed me up for a V3ry catalogue
So I can't wait to order my bedding from them. I wanted to get 2 sets of winter bedding for both me and DD but at £255 in total  I think I'll have a look around on the website and see what else I need to get in for winter and get it all in one go
Being able to spread the payments will make it so much easier to pay for stuff
Off to look at my winter prep list while my thermal socks are washing/drying
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I've decided against the flannelette sheet. I already have a super soft fleecy throw on the end of the bed which we use on top of the duvet & its huge! Got it in matalan a few yrs ago. So I'll buy another one & that will do under the duvet so I'll have a "duvet sandwich"! I also have a fleece blanket used as a flat sheet so we will be super warm!
I did buy a Silentnight twin pack fleece blanket last week from Argos & they were pretty big. They can do as flat sheets too. Kids each have a fleecy blanket which they sleep on in the winter and lots of super warm PJ's.0 -

thanks for the heads up but all gone nowI think cos its superking there arent many around. I like a bigger quilt as it is more cosy in winter, too many gaps with the smaller one!

Does anyone know if duck feather and down duvets are supposed to smell? I bought my LO's from argos and opened it yesterday and its smelly! Smells inbetween mould and tea tree.... hmmm! Think i will put it through the wash and then air it on the line, i googled and argos ones are coming up as smelly so must be a problem with theirs!
We are getting a shower fitted today, not exactly winter preps but its spurred me on to think about getting something done to make the bathroom warmer- floor to ceiling tiles and its freezing in winter!
I'm thinking of getting an asda savings card for mid january shop. We have a card which by the end of next month will have £170 on as my OH is sticking £80 on it and it already has £90 on. Hoping to get that up to £200 and that will buy me a good 3 weeks supply of food for over the festivities. Then i will work on getting £100 on a different card and that means no worrying for me in January as i'm always poor for a good couple of months after xmas and we are expecting our 2nd child in march too so every little prep helps.Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:

I know this can only be done while at home, but you would be surprised at how much heat can be generated by a single tea light. Ok, it is not enough to lounge about in, but it definitely takes the bitter nip out of the air.A smile costs little but creates much0 -

Ooooh i never thought of that, I will light a couple for half an hour before i use the shower or bath and hopefully it will help. We do have radiators so i tend to warm my towel on the bathroom one and my dressing gown and pjs on the bedroom one.
Hopefully get a nice thick bath mat too, trouble with our house is as soon as someone has a bath it gets soaked and doesnt dry- just sits on the tiles soaking! So then gets grubby and needs washing, drives me mad as i dont think my friends have this problem hmmmMummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:

I made the monumental error last year of not being prepared, I had a newborn baby so I was preoccupied. I was completely caught short. When the snow hit the midlands before christmas, we had next to nothing in the cupboards. I got the car out to make a dash to the shops and the gloplugs were dead from the cold, argh! A kind sould stopped to help me jump start it, so I had a tense few minutes after finishing the shopping as to whether the car would start! The snow was so heavy just before I left that Morrisons was sending people home so they didn't get stuck there.
The house is pretty much ready for winter now. I lined all the curtains last year and the door curtains haven't come off. I've just got to wait until the winter clothes come in the shops for the kids.
My to do list:
Change Gloplugs (before it gets cold again)
Round up all of the gloves/hats/scarves
Make an emergency winter car kit for OH, he has a 90 mile round trip 5 days a week (unless we are successful in moving nearer)
Stock up on extra tins and packets when they are on special offer
Make sure the freezer is full
Stock up on bottled water
I will be watching this thread with interest, there are so many great ideas.0 -
Also forgot to mention that I have been buying thick fleece pyjamas and all in ones for my son from primark for about three years now. They wash and wear very well considering they are around £4 a pair. My son still has some from three years ago (I bought some a bit big, hehe) and they are still going strong.0
