Oops the quote above didnt work not sure what I did to it:T baby boy born 01/01/2012 my New Years Day Boy

My winter preparations are coming along nicely. I have my door curtain up. Had trouble finding a pole as my wall are wonky. Wilko's do a selection of extendable poles quite cheaply, no nails/drill needed. Have put the elecky blankets on the beds and made sure they work, have got my spare oil radiators out, got lots of tea lights and as I have pre pay gas/elec am going to start getting lots of credit on them to stretch the cost. Dont think I need to stock pile food etc too much as live very near to a few corner shop type shops but will keep a few extra tins etc in just in case.
Need to sort through my winter woolies and see what I need there. Got coats, boots etc. Can see a charity shop trip coming up!I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
im not having much luck getting heavy lined door curtains. never seem to be any in the charity shops. at the back door i have an unlined curtain which is about 15" from the floor. if i were to pin(safety pin?) a fleece to it i think i would need 2 for it to be long enough. am i beint thick or is this the only way to do it.thanks
I've ordered some fabric from Plumbs when they were selling their fabric for £1 a metre (I think it's went up to £3 now) and although I have a sewing machine I can't really use it properly and don't have the time to learn just now. I'm going to make a hem at either end and put a curtain pole through the top hem. Then I'm going to get a couple of cheap fleeces and do exactly what you've suggested above...pin 2 fleeces together and pin these to the top of the curtain.
Maybe if I ever manange to fit into the routine of the allotment, home cooking/baking, crochet, wine and beer making, foraging and everyday chores I'll learn how to use the machine properly but short term I'm sure it will work"Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

I bought mine from a cheap shoe shop on the Holloway Rd in London and have seen them in lots of similar shops, Sports Direct and Barretts but I do think they are normally in childrens sizes. I am only a 4 so just got kids ones.
There are lots on ebay but mainly in smaller sizes I think.0 -
Its quite chilly here so am contemplating putting one heater on low as Dgs is going to be here a bit, my Dd and Sil and baby got carbon monoxide poisoning from their new house yesterday and we are all in a state of shock. Luckily Sil was in the house on his own when he put the gas fire on high - well not lucky for him - but they had programmed the heating to come on in the night to warm the house through as it had been empty before they moved in and it was in need of warming through. I cannot bear to think what would have happened and am still reeling from it all. They had all been a bit low since they moved in on Saturday but we thought it was just exhaustion from all the messing about. I was beginning to suspect something but had not worked it out when Dd found Sil collapsed in kitchen yesterday.
After a trip to casualty and good back up from new Gp and one very scared landlady all seem to be fine- thank godClearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Crikey Ginny, that's awful! I'm so glad it turned out ok and everyone is fine. You must have got an terrible fright. Will they be staying in the house after that happening?
It's a timely warming to everyone here to make sure fires and boilers are in proper working order and to be careful about ventilation.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Eek scary stuff Ginny! Glad that everyone is ok now but must have been a frightening experience!:T baby boy born 01/01/2012 my New Years Day Boy

So what exactly is the LL going to do about these heaters? I guess she never bothered having everything serviced. On the plus side it should have freaked her out sufficiently to give the whole place a complete overhaul. Might be worth getting the electrics checked too.
I am so pleased everyone is ok though.0 -
Oh my goodness Ginny! That could have been an absolute tragedy, CO is so dangerous especially for babies. Speaking of which, I don't have a CO monitor/alarm, do I need one? I don't have a gas fire, but do have gas CH.
Skint but happy with my lovely family
