Candles, matches, carton of UHT milk, bread mix packet (just need to add water), dried pasta, a few tins of basics such as fish, beans, tomatoes, basics such as butter, flour, sugar, eggs (can make so much with these basics), homemade soups in freezer, hot water bottles, basic medicines such as paracetamol, etc.0 -
Also, katgoddess, add to that list anything you, personally, would miss if you had to do without it for a week. (Of course I have no vices...

That's a really good list. :TAlso, katgoddess, add to that list anything you, personally, would miss if you had to do without it for a week. (Of course I have no vices...)

chocolate is a must have along with making sure that our ds`s` are charged so that we can play scrabble because if we are forced to stay in for a long time then might as well enjoy it

OK, so I've just got in a small supply of garden salt. When's the best time to put it down?
When the weather forecast is forecasting a below zero temperature overnight?
Or just before snow is forecast?
When it's been raining and is expected to freeze overnight and turn to ice?
Don't want to waste it unnecessarily. How do other people use it?0 -

Clear the snow or ice early in the day
It’s easier to move fresh, loose snow rather than hard snow that has packed together from people walking on it. So if possible, start removing the snow and ice in the morning. If you remove the top layer of snow in the morning, any sunshine during the day will help melt any ice beneath. You can then cover the path with salt before nightfall to stop it refreezing overnight.
