I haven't bought any myself yet but was thinking of buying them from this place.

It says they so are 'Suppliers to ITV Dancing On Ice, Chester Zoo and the Portuguese Air force' they must be a decent quality.0 -

great thread, i wondered if anyone had any advice.
The more regular posters will know on here that we have had issues in our rented property with disrepair and cold etc.
Looks like the work repairs will be starting after xmas so now the issue is keeping warm in a property where it seems we have to phone the LA before we even move furniture!
The property is very old (200 years or so?) has single glazed original sash windows throughout over 3 stories. It is incredibly cold throughout the winter. The house thermostat was reading at about 9degrees c last winter.
The front door is not so much of a problem as we have curtains to put in front of that to block off the draft but the windows are the biggest issue.
We have tried 'secondary glazing film'and all the other diy products but with no success.
The house has got GCH but cost us £700 to heat for 3 months last winterEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -
I read the last thread and this one and have to say there's loads of ideas for everyone, I live alone and heating a 2 bedroomed house with just me and my pooch seems a bit extravagant, anyway I fitted radiator foil last weekend and it makes a huge difference I only put the heating on for a hour in the morning and have turned the heating down, so already saving money.
My council did a big push on insulating every home in the area so got free loft insulation fitted last year, which I was really chuffed with, they even insulated the hatch. I made a draught excluder last year and these really do work.
I have thermals and stuff cos I do a lot of walking but got some PJ's from primarni and they are brilliant for a fiver, off to get some more, will keep reading on, keeps me focused on keeping warm for less.0 -
Preparation is going to have to be done quickly since snow is forecast next week!!! First on list is find the hot water bottles, winter shoes will be polished up, and old fashioned 'dubbing' applied to keep them waterproof. Curtains have to be replaced in the hall, and the roller blind put back after our new windows were fitted. Candles, matches and thermos flasks are all at hand already, and I will have to check the torches and make sure there are plenty batteries.
Will have to go and make more lists just in case...........Every days a School day!0 -
