I emailed Milton and got a reply. I had asked if they had changed the formulation and if it is safe for purifying water still. This is what they said:

So it's the same as before. I wonder why it's not on the label any more, nor could I see it mentioned on their website.

    That's brilliant NualaBuala. Thanks.

100l of water seems an awful lot though. That's about 10 buckets full isn't it?

Think I might stick with the fluid. It's a much more manageable amount.

You're welcome :) I didn't notice the 100L! Could that be a typo I wonder? I copied and pasted their answer but am not at all familiar with the tablets. I think I'd go with the fluid too!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Good to see the thread up and going again, it must be that time of year...

It is great that even with the rain and the wind howling out there the temperature is still quite mild. In days past it was quite cold (even here in London) and we have put the woodstove on, almost as a trial run. However it is no longer necessary at the moment.

The main preparation we have made has been scavenging as much wood over the summer as possible. We were very lucky to have found a skip full of perfectly cut logs that only needed chopping in smaller pieces, so we stocked up the woodshed and some!

Thermals are still ok from two years ago, we have enough jumpers and winter shoes and the only thing that I could do with is a really warm, waterproof raincoat, so I am going hunting in the charity shops in the next few weeks. DH also would like an overcoat but as he has to be quite smart at work he will probably have to get it new from the shops (perhaps I can persuade him to get it from John Lewis as we have some vouchers and I can get points on the card!).

The challenge (only to ourselves, not to anyone else!!!) is on for holding back from putting the central heating on before 1st November. See how it goes!

Bit of a lurker on this thread, but depending on your budget, and what kind of coat you are looking for, Regatta Outlet are selling coats at 70% discounts. I got myself and OH a winter coat each for the total of £29. Think there is a free delivery code on this forum somewhere too!

    hth!

Thanks also to the OP who mentioned about attatching fleeces to curtains - wil be off to Asda as soon as possible to get some!

We bought 2 red ones and 2 brown ones on Thursday, to try them out (intending to buy more when we have to go into town again in a couple of weeks). Hubby thought we should wash DS5's curtains first. He gets up very early in the mornings so he decided to get it all sorted out and give me a surprise, but the curtains were still wet, so he put them in the tumble dryer, sewed the fleeces into them, put the curtain hooks back on and went to hang them up - which was when he discovered the tumble dryer had shrunk them.:rotfl:

Oh dear! I thought about washing them, then though NAHHH!!! the extra dust will mean its warmer! I'l wash them in the spring!

i bought my daughter some of the base layer thermals from millets and she's the same way, she'd wear them all the time if i let her! thanks for the heads up, i think a trip into dundee might be in order for some pj's. do you know what sizes they went up to? she's 9 but really needs at least a size 11 years because she's so tall (a full head taller than most of the friends at her birthday party if that tells you anything!)

on a slightly off topic note may i say yay to me! i've been really worrying about an issue i've had with the washing machine in my rented flat causing leaking in my hall cupboard. to the letting agents credit they did have a plumber come out but he couldn't see that my machine should leak where it is (i can't either but it is!) i'd def narrowed it down to doing laundry not showers or washing dishes etc. despite me suggesting to the plumber that perhaps something was backing up the water forcing it the wrong direction he wasn't having any of it, though he did even check in the loft (the leak comse through a hole cut in the wall for pipes and collects on the cupboard floor)... anyway confusing and worrisome as winter is coming and troubled pipes are even worse news in winter!

anyway i'd curtailed my washing and had been really dreading calling them back in again when the thought occured to me that my sinks and tub had been really sluggish and foul smelling til i used caustic soda on them... so i thought, i bet i'm right about a clog backing the water up and forcing it around a seal in the pipe in that spot so i did a wash with just the caustic soda and no clothes.

after that wash it leaked much more than before, i actually had a puddle this time vs just a lot of dampness. that was about a week ago, i had to clean up the house and have my daughters birthday party etc and i was planning to call about it today. however i decided to sneak in a wash (desperate for clean clothes) and i just checked and it's not leaked!

my guess is that the caustic soda must have cleared part of the blockage during the initial wash with it and that forced more water through than normal. then sitting in the pipes for awhile and another wash must have cleared the pipes totally!

anyway i've got a second load on to test the theory... wish me luck, that would be one huge worry off my shoulders, i don't want pipes issues this winter and there are no laundrettes anywhere near here (at least 20 miles and i don't have a car!) so no washing machine is a no go for me, and i wasn't relishing them cutting up the walls in my flat to fix the problem!
  • hi confuzzled!

in the boys section they def went up to age 11,so im gonna assume the girls section would be the same, but having none of the pink variety i didnt look too closely!

talking of insulation, DH lit both multifuel burners yesterday and put on a bit of coal as well as wood ,as we have all been suffering from colds and what with the bad weather........anyway,was sat here sweating thinking it was the cold ,looked at the thermometer and it was reading 27 celcius . Tropical.

We had our stove on last week and our daughter said 'You can tell when it's winter because we're sitting around in shorts and strappy tops!' Our stove throws out so much heat AND heats the rest of house (we leave the doors open for the heat to get around). We've had this stove for 2 years and it is the best and most efficient one we've ever had. We also have about 3ft of the stove pipe exposed and that gives off loads of heat too.

    We love our stove:j

I was looking at the primani pj's yesterday, my 2 dd's love the fleece ones, im sure the kids pjs go up to abbout 13 yrs, theyve also started to do the fleece all ones (like a babygrow) in the bigger kids sizes, they only used to go up to about a 3 or 4 year old but got my eldset one in size 6-7 and they went into much larger sizes and they were £6 each. 2 dd's were well chuffed when i got then last week cos i refused to but the all in ones last year as i could only find them in Mothercare last year for nearly £20 each!!!!!! You could also try ladies size 6-8 depending on how tall she is x
