Cheapest Orange tarriff ?

I'm looking for some advice please. I am in the last 4 months of my Orange contract phone (Off Peak 1000) and it is costing £20/month.

As I use my other mobile for all my calls these days I want to try and get this Orange contract down to the lowest cost/month (as I can't cancel it until next Feb).

I phoned orange and they told me that the cheapest price plane they do is £19/month. Is that true ? Is there no way to get my contract to a cheaper package ?

Appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Kevin.

But I can't leave until Feb next year, surely they will realise that and not offer any incentives to stay ?

You're right about that. It would be best to look up the tariffs on Orange's web site and then ask to change to the cheapest of the lot. However, 20/month tariffs either are or are very near the minimum spend for standard contracts, so you won't improve your line rental situation by much.

OK thanks for the info. though I am currently on a T-Mobile off-peak 750 tarriff (no texts) and that is £4.95/month.

I guess I'll just leave my Orange plan alone and cancel next Feb.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

To be fair, that is not Orange's problem is it! You will not get a cheaper tariff than £19/mth and Feb is a long way off yet.

    And your point is exactly...

I don't remember saying anything about it being Orange's problem, I merely asked if there was a cheaper tarrif than the £19 quoted.

On more than one occasion I have been offered a particular mobile tarrif only after I specifically asked for it by name as some mobile companies have a tendency not to inform you about the cheapest tarrifs they do.

That's how I got my T-Mobile £4.95/month tarrif. So there actually are tarrifs out there quite a bit cheaper than £19/month.

My point is that they are unlikely to do anything for you as you, are only six month into your contract. Moving to the lowest monthly tariff is the best that you will get. It is your situation that has changed, not theirs!

work in phone retail, oranges cheapest tariff is £19, and we recommend our customers drop to this to help making the last payments cheaper.
are you looking into taking out a new contract with orange?
im not trying to sell, just curious for your actions?

  • i work for orange. we wouldnt inform you of the ovp (orange value promise) tarriffs if you hadnt have asked as they are price matches that we do to match other mobile networks

however as from 1st aug 2006 orange stopped doing ovp and also web plans (like 100ins/100texts) all they offer now are animal plans (which tie you in to new contract)

    or basic core plans:

    £19 a month=50 xnet mins
    £25 a month=100 xnet mins
    etc etc

you can also pay off your last 4 months upfront, at £76, this would also release your number and PAC code, so you can bring that number across to your other mobile.
