Can anyone tell me where i can save on my soa?

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can help me with my SOA see if I can change and reduce any of it? The sky and Bt can't change until March 2011 due to a contract and they have said I am not able to reduce the package.

The reason I am in council tax and housing benefit debt is that I was off work for 6 months due to leaving a job I was given housing benefit and they provided this to me which I gave straight to my landlord. now even through I told them that I receive £260 disability they did not account for this so now they have taken me to court and i've been ordered to pay this amount can anyone help me?

I have epelepsy, arthritus, sugar problems and blood pressure problems I am also in a leg brace at the moment so not able to get extra job normally I walk to work but now I am having to walk (explaining the £40 a month bus fare) can anyone help me? the reason my pay is low is that I am a temporary worker so not on permanent pay package.

    Hi kirstyjessen,

The best place to get help with your SOA is from the experts on the Debt-Free Wannabe board so I'll move your thread over there.

Dont' believe what Sky say. The package can be reduced. You need to get the right person on the phone and it can be cut down to £19 per month even if you are in contract.

Will these not accept an arrangement to repay in installments?
    Have you offered?

Tell them you're willing and able to pay, but at £150 per month for example rather than one lump sum. They can take you to court, but if you haven't got the money to pay as a lump sum then realistically they would have to accept your offer surely?

    Hi
Welcome to the board. I've put some comments in your soa above.
Ring council tax and Housing benefit and explain that you can't pay in full but could pay x amount per month to clear these

  • Can you investigate getting a water meter? If you go to your water supplier's website they will probably have a "calculator" thing to help you decide if one will help. I live in a flat on my own and I am hoping to save ~£30 per month when I have my meter fitted.
  • Hi - there clearly isn't scope in your SOA to cut back by the amount needed.
You need to double check whether you do indeed owe this money or whether there has been some mistake - if you provided the correct info to the council and it's there mistake they may be able to write off the debt - maybe try the benefits board or try your local CAB to try and get to the bottom of it all.
If it is established that you do owe the money back then you need to try and arrange a repayment plan with the council or perhaps through the courts - again people on the benefits board or your local CAB should be able to help with this.
    Good Luck

You could also try your MP who may be able to intervene.
