    Now, while I did say that - you still don't have that as an argument. It clearly states, in many places, how many days you had.

    You should've paid earlier ;)

    Yes, which is why I usually start "troublesome" calls which I am recording, with the following:
    I forget where I first read this tip, but it is perfectly legal, polite and acceptable and often produces quick results. And is doing NOTHING different than call centres do when they tell you they are recording the call.
    Worked a treat when Bulldog double-billed me, cut me off, and didn't compensate me. As soon as I made it clear a transcript was being made, I had the double-bill refund and "downtime" payment back on as a credit within the day.
    You just need to be firm, clear and polite.

    I thought there was an oddity in the law that meant you didn't have to inform anyone. It was ok as long as one of the parties knew - as the person recording knows then that's the party.

    What do you use for recording calls?

    I tried Skype for a while, but as many others have found, recording means there's a nasty echo, the quality is poor and it crashes!

    So now, as simple as a little gadget from 99p store that plugs between phone and wall socket.

    I agree it is totally up to the customer to pay on time, but WHY do we have to allow four or five working days for a payment to reach anywhere??This is the twenty-first century, not the dark ages, We are not still using a man running with a cleft stick.

    Payment by internet transfer or telephone should be instantaneous and I am POSITIVE the banks could do that if they just exerted themselves a teeny- weeny bit.;) ;);)

    I will stand corrected if I’m wrong, but please tell me. Aren’t these charges more than a little disproportionate too the cost of the administration of this occurrence.

    As for the electronically recording of an event without the other party being aware, I see no issue. Unless one wants to use it in a court of law as evidence, one would then have to appeal to the presiding member of the court for permission. It’s the law! :cool:

    ‘Trust me I’m a solicitor’ is a cliché I should not use although its got more credence than 'Trust me I’m a bank manager at NatWest' or is there no difference, know what I mean... :rotfl:
  • the thing that gets my goat is that some people come on here bemoaning their charges when if they didn't leave it all to the last minute there wouldn't be any charges to pay - you had the bill for 3 weeks - DOH!

    Natwest took 11 days to clear a cheque once which gave me a late payment, and they took £100 off my limit from it as well (lucky I had £10 spare credit after that) so always pay by cash into the bank now, don't trust natwest at all, as soon as i'm on teh electoral roll here, i'm getting away from natwest, nothing but hell with thier credit card, was worse working for them.

    The statements are sent out in plently of time. The computer stsyem that sends the statements cannot account for weekends/bank holidays or the like. That is up to YOU. YOU have the credit card. YOU spent the money. Its your responsibility to keep an eye on your limit & also allow time for payments to reach your account.

    Maybe I'm a droid too (Natwest cashier), I do agree that calling the person on the phone a droid was wrong but a computer CAN tell the difference between a bank holiday/weekend, even if it isn't programmed to do so it could be programmed to knock a specific date on the statement (i.e. the bank holiday) a day back/forward.

  • but the date quoted on the statement is the latest date that the payment must be made by NOT SPECIFICALLY ON THAT DATE, its not rocket science just pay it a bit earlier in the 3 week period

    I get my statement on the 20th/21st on the month, to be paid by the 30th, you're getting 3 weeks to send your payment?
