Experienced the removal of 1p items myself... just don't understand why they reduce them to 1p if they aren't allowed to sell!?!

There's an oft quoted Daily Mail article that says that Tesco says you CAN buy them and that you will be a 'lucky customer' if you do ! Check out post no. 680, Page 34

I actually used this!!! The sa tried taking a small hello kitty purse with choc buttons in it saying they are not allowed, brought another sa over and i had them waiting a good 10 minutes as my slow phone brought up the website and i quoted out what the managing director of tesco said and then queried whether he was incorrect... Also added how brill it would be for the paper to re run it stating sa's are taking them off customers against an actual tesco statement.. They let me have it needless to say. And then i did it again with the andrex loo rolls two days later... since then i haven't seen a single 1p item, instead good stuff tends to say it's been withdrawn and not for sale! :(:(

Interesting, thanks for this. I'm still annoyed about having my items taken off me. I did ask if it was worth speaking to a manager but sa said they get told by the manager every week to remove 1p items from customers and sa get in big trouble if they don't so didn't really see the point in wasting my time. She did seem a really nice lady and said she felt really bad about taking them off me, but to be fair, she could easily have pretended not to notice, wonder if they get ' brownie points' for finding 1p things? Why else would you purposely take a few Easter games off a woman with 2 kids when you could pretend to have not noticed?

Yeah its interesting, as these items have been knocking about for at least 2 years and yet T have not stopped their scanners from scanning them at 1p. There seems to be different store policies all over the place. I bought a 4p pair of trousers once and they told me the manageress had said things could be sold that cheaply. Best advice is to go through SS till as quick as possible, act casual on manned till and if they notice just say its discontinued stock and you've bought it/them before and produce your mail article as a last resort. How much of a fuss you make is up to you.
Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

Just found loads of stuff in Oldh@m extra store-creme eggs, malteser bunnies, caramel bunnies and large boxed tinkerbell eggs-1p for everything, but then got trouted at the till. I asked to speak to a manager so that they could outline their reason for not selling the items to me; the reply was 'company policy'. When I asked whether head office would confirm this 'policy' her response was 'yes, I'll give you the number for head office if you want.' (how very helpful of her :))

I'm not too fussed about not getting the products, what annoys me is the lack of consistency from store to store and the general attitude when you dare to question them. I feel like emailing head office, but for 1p chocolate it's probably not worth it. I'll save my email for an occasion when it really counts!

i think if you shop in tescos often like i do and you build a good rapour with certain checkout staff you will find when you take your penny items to them they will overlook policy.i have never been refused penny items.another trick is to keep the checkout staff talking as they are putting your items through and many price errors will be overlooked.
