Just been to Harlow, Edinburgh way store and got 9 boxes of roses and 5 bags of Lindor eggs. There were lots of the Toy Story bags of eggs on the hanging things if anyone is interested. I left them as my kids don't eat them.0

Just back from Tesco Edinburgh Corstorphine and they had 10 of the frozen Tesco Finest Strawberry Tarts, 50p each instead of £3, I only took 3, they're right next to the full price ones on the top shelf, enjoy mmmmm!0

Just got back from Tesco Aldershot... no roses or choc deals but the Belgian Chocolate Tesco Finest Range Puddings are in the frozen section and are scanning at 87p... there is no SEL.. I took two but there were 6 left in there.. think they would have been about 3.00 a pack so a good saving.. barcode 50520044758460

Agreed! I presume it is not part of their job description to do this, and it just ruins it for everyone else. Even as a member of staff why would you be on Tesco's side rather than the customer's (customers most likely include your own friends, family and probably yourself)? Even if the occasional item goes through at a cheaper price than originally intended Tesco are still raking in billions of pounds profit and the big people are probably rubbing their hands and laughing at the measly checkout assistants. I'm not personally saying checkout assistants are measly I just mean the way the big "important" people look at you. (I am a waitress at a chain restaurant so also in the same position at the bottom of the scale). So loosen up and let people get their glitches (that are Tesco's fault in the first place) it doesn't affect anyone but the customer.:)0 -

i worked for a supermarket for about 6 years (and was very much on the side of the customer!) but they attempt to "brain wash" you that the people getting the discounts are making staff lose jobs. Whenever we had a major glitch or problem, the managers would say "well THEY (customers) dont care, its not their jobs on the line". it was made clear that everytime we were "ripped off", the company lost money which was therefore lowering our christmas bonus's and eventually would lead to jobs being cut. I was, however, a teenager and at college, so this didnt bother me too much and I still put things through. Now though, it occurs to me that while there, they took away our 10% off staff discount cards for over a year, as "profits were down". At the time we were, obviously, annoyed, but I never gave it too much thought (probably because I lived at home and didnt pay for my own shopping so losing 10p off my dinner each day didnt bother me). Now though it infuriates me that when large supermarkets make mistakes, instead of taking it out of the BILLIONS they make in profits, they punish the staff by taking away perks and discounts. I make the most of these glitches, because at the end of the day, its Tesco's problem. I think the sticks-of-rock are just easily led and believe what they are being told by the managers. You get them in every business. Rather than blame Tesco's for the lack of bonus's, they blame us. Its mad that they think that taking four boxes of roses from someone will make THEM look better to management. pathetic.0 -

Hi,
How are these bargain items discovered?
Is it by pure chance or are there some clues to look out for?

Yes I see what you're saying actually. This is similar to the restaurant I used to work in (an even bigger chain than current one). What the management don't realise is that the more they take the mickey with the staff (taking your discount away for example) the more likely we are to be on the customer's side (I guess there are exceptions though as the SA we are talking about who reads this thread). They always used to say we "can't afford" to have more staff on when it's really busy so I would sometimes have to serve the whole restaurant on my own, on minimum wage whilst the company were making millions.
The amount of free drinks and puddings I had to secretly give out to apologise about the service, they could have just put an extra person on, which would've cost them about £15. If they took the !!!! with me, I'd take the !!!! with them.;)
Anyway that is completely off topic so I'll shut up now, sorry!!!:):)0
