I'm retired,60 yrs old, only travelled 2000 miles in the car during last year.Received a renewal quote for my 7yr old Micra today.last year £246.62.....This year £1055.33:eek: for no reason that I can think of.Nothing has changed. I phoned the company up,thinking someone had gone mad and they informed me the quote was correct. What is going on???Any ideas?

1. Insurance for everyone is going up this year due to the bad weather over winter, and increase in 3rd party claims
2. There were reports out this year that insurance for older woman drivers was going to go up as insurers data shows they are more likely to be involved in accidents.
3. Insurance data shows that if you do too few miles per year you are more likely to be involved in an accident.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
I have a 15 year old Micra and my insurance went up from £75 to £157, I've been on all the comparison sites and I can get it again for just under £80. What is annying me is I am presently with Direct Line and I will have to phone them up and cancel because if I don't they will automatically renew my insurance taking the money from the card I paid with last year. At least I have found a 01 number and if I call at the weekend I get free calls from Virgin.0

No, but there again, it doesn't have to be. The insurer obviously doesn't want your business - nothing personal, your profile just doesn't fit with what they think will be profitable.

Get on the Insurance section of the main site and go through Martin's car insurance article. Use the comparison sites and find a company who do want your profile. Don't forget to tell your current insurer you're not renewing.0 -
Robert can I ask where you can get your insurance for 80 pounds?0

This big jump may be because of your age. Your last birthday may have taken you into a different age band with your present company.
Different companies have different target markets, and it may be your company for whatever reason have decided they don't want people over 60.

2 hours research on the internet and 4 comparison sites and 3 other sites. Then pick the cheapest.
And I'm still trying to get it cheaper yet.0 -
Sixty, try SAGAWHO READS SIGNATURES ANYWAY? DOES ANYONE UNDER 30YRS KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOSE AND LOOSE?0

Robert can I ask where you can get your insurance for 80 pounds?
I'm afraid that just because one person gets cheap car insurance some place does not mean anyone else will.
There are many factors - age, gender, postcode, cover level, excess, options chosen, mileage, occupation, vehicle type, vehicle value, named drivers, claims, convictions etc. that affect the quote.
This means that everyone has to do their own search to find the cheapest insurer for them.
In general there aren't any insurers that are universally cheap, it's all down to a large combination of factors.0 -
I just got an online quote from Saga, I'd not considered them, and it was £86 and if I get a quote for home insurance I will get £20 off
So down to £66 a year now for car insurance.
Any more I could try, I've exhausted all the comparison sites?0 -
Dear All..thanks for the thoughts. I've had success! Many more cheap, yet good offers on the comparison sites.Decided on LV AT £280. Could have been cheaper, but I've got an added driver and some good extras. Stuff E---e and their ridiculous quotes. After reading some reviews on insurance sites, I see they have employed the same tactics with lots of other people....Makes you think....0
