tesco fresh meat minging

  • Surely other shoppers at this Tesco store would be complaining as well if they bought meat that was off? Or is the OP just incredibly unlucky? Or maybe the meat isnt off, as Withabix has indicated?

I used to work at tescos some years ago and cages with meat on were often left unrefridgerated for exmaple in the loading bay or warehouse especially in busy times when the general fridges were full. Was very hard to ensure good rotation.

I have bought meat from tescos a couple of times in the last year and i did not feel it satisfactory at all and never buy meat there now, i just dont. I use morrisons who i find excellent, waitrose and M&S and look hard for the offers. Occasionally sainsburys but there isnt one close by but Ive never had this problem there.

Have had this with chicken a few times from Tesco.

Most recent case last week the chicken was bought on a Friday (always take the one at the back with longest shelf life) and we opened it 3 days prior to its best before date and it smelt awful.

Now we either buy within 48 hours of eating or we freeze it at once.

Buy a lot less meat from supermarket now - it doesnt taste as good as the local butchers.

    really? yuck!!

If you go to a butcher -if you live near one- they can normally be better value. mine tells me which are cheaper cuts (great for stews!)

If you think that adding dye is yuck, you should see what else goes into your food...

I've had this twice in the past month with tesco packs of chicken breasts. A few days witin their sell by date but smelt awful when I opened the packed.

Rang customer services and got a refund both times, guy on the phone said they are having a lot of problems like this with chicken at the moment but it is accross all supermarkets and not just tesco's Not sure how true that is but definately putting me off buying 'fresh' meat from supermarkets.......!
  • I've had similar problems with Tesco too - especially their ready cook joints of meat. What's really annoying with Tesco as well is that they offer to exchange the product, or give you a refund, so no compensation for you having to make another trip to the store. On the one occasion that I have had to take food back to Waitrose, they gave both and refund and an exchange to compensate for my time. I now tend to avoid Tesco generally.

Interesting. With an approach like this, it would be environmental health time for me .

I have never bought off meat from waitrose or M&S, I mean NEVER.
if it were the case then wed all be experiencing it. Would we not?

It is poor handling, longer handling lives, poor storage, poor rotation, poor buying then that is the problem. No one forces retailers to see off( and potentially poisonous meat)
