the benefit lip buffer beads and balm is amazing!
  • Yet another vote for Blistex Relief Cream - an oldie but a goodie! I don't find the 8 hour cream that good at all, and the smell is really overpowering. I tried the Boots P&P lip cream a while back too and was shocked at how much it dried my lips out - Blistex Blistex Blistex!! :D

  • Hi

Just thought I'd return to thank everyone again for the advice. After all the positive votes for Blistex Relief Cream I've been trying this and I find it brilliant. It does work, although I do have to apply it regularly but hopefully less so once my lips (hopefully!) start to improve.

Have shopped around and the cheapest I've found it is £1.47 in Morrissons the other day which is pretty good.

Next to tackle my hands and hair - I saw some "Pure Coconut Oil" products by Inecto - tried their conditioner the other day and it was fab - wondering what the moisturiser and hand lotion are like if anyone has tried these? It's very affordable too which is great!

Just like to add i have very dry things like eyes, skin, mouth and lips due to illness.

I drink lots of fluid not always water, fruit and herbal teas as well, i take an omega 3+6+9 from Superdrug not the fish type as i read that only the very premium brands were any good for you as the fish is very low grade in cheap omega products but Superdrug do a plant based one usually BOGOF. Cannot afford the premium grade stuff ;)

But i swear by Elizabeth Arden, i have tried loads and wasted money and nothing helps my lips like 8 hour cream...it is more expensive but lasts forever. I even get sores when i use others but EA gets rid of them...it does contain salicylic acid and that is an exfoliant as its used in acne preparations and Clinique use it in their turnaround cream. Keeps them soft.

Full ingredients here: Petrolatum 56.8%, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol Acetate, BHT, Iron Oxides So it does contain some nasties such as mineral oil, lanolin and parabens but it helps me and my lips look and feel better with it...at least its an informed choice.

I use it on my eyebrows, lips, eyelids. It gives a nice sheen and lasts longer than vaseline. I also have shea butter and use as face cream but for me not long lasting like Liz Arden...i do wish i could find a cheaper alternative :)

So i am a fan of the 8 hour cream... I seem to be the only one :D :T

Another vote for carmex, I'm a bit of a lip balm addict but I can second the person who uggested you make your own, it really couldn't be easier, particularly a good idea from a consistency point of view if you want a harder/softer lipbalm just add more or less beeswax, I wouldn't recommend coconut oil is very drying on the skin (strange but true!)

  • know this is a bit of an old thread but just in case anyone searches. i had awful dry lips and vaseline and the type did nothing. so when i was in america i treated myself to creme de la mer lip balm and i will never ever go back. it is v v expensive but i last bought a tub over two years ago. when my lips are getting bad i plop a good bit of it on before bed and they next day they are like new lips. sometimes money saving is about investments and i would seriously recommend creme de la mer lipbalm. go to a concession if you have one near you and ask to try it and then give it a day. miracle stuff

Two votes for Elizabeth Arden - not cheap but lasts for ages. Also works on other dry parts - I suffer from split skin on the end of my fingers in winter coz of my job - SOOOOO painful, but this soon sorts it out
