Hi,
As the title says really - have dried out dehydrated lips. In past have just used ordinary Vaseline but this doesn't seem to help much and am sure they're not going to improve with winter approaching.
Have heard lots of good things about the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour range but as it's expensive I don't want to jump in before asking on here whether anyone uses the 8 hour lip balm and, if so, how they rate it?
Alternatively pls can anyone recommend any other good super-moisturising lip product that works!
Many thx.

I think the 8-hour-cream is more like a very dense vasaline. It does a good trick of locking in moisture so if your going into air conditioned buildings alot it can help, but in terms of adding moisture, I don't think its what you need. Vaseline is made from petroleum jelly which again, locks in moisture but can prevent the body from realising it needs to create its own, your lips can become reliant on the stuff and it can result in even drier lips.
I would look for a natural wax or natural oil based product such as bees wax or coconut oil. There are many out there and it really depends on your preference and how you feel about the brand. I find that different lip things work for me at different times. I had one by Cowshed I got for free not too long ago which I like- no idea whats in it though but my lips were fine to begin with.
I also liked Philosophy's 'Kiss Me' which seemed to last for ages- it was a hand-me-down my sister didn't want but really helped my lips when I had been biting at them and torn them a bit too much.
Lush do some I would assume are natural or naturally based and could be worth looking into.
I had an SPF50 stick by Kiehl's last year, designed for skiers but worked just as well in the UK sun.
Bodyshop also have some gorgeous scented lip balms.0 -
I swear by chapstick medicated. Boots sell it, it's usually with the other lip salve type products (and those mini tins of vaseline). I really suffer with dry lips but a couple of days of putting that on regularly usually sorts them out. It only costs a couple of quid so very MSE too!0

Blistex Relief Cream. Used to be Blisteze. It does say its for cold sores/cracked lips but its the only thing I've found that can repair my lips once they've become so dry. Its about £2 for a tube but u need such a tiny amount it lasts for ages. I use it all winter and wouldn't use anything else0

Pot of coconut oil from the chemist £1.... should do the trick!!:T0

Epaderm ointment worked for me.
The consultant dermatologist prescribed it for me after I had tried about 30 over the counter products. It worked immediately. Tesco sell it on private prescription from their pharmacy for about a tenner I think. But the pot is huge to you can use it on dry skin all over.

ooo, you poor thing, dry lips are SO painful!
Spiezia Organics do a lovely lip balm with no nasties in it, and it works very well.
Try also Solar Balm - great multitasking product which completely sorts out the sore bit between lip and nose when you have a nasty cold.
My husband swears by it and gets twitchy if it's not in his pocket come the winter!
Hope it eases soon.0 -
Simple do a lip moisturiser which is easily the best I've ever tried - definitely better than vaseline, EA lip balm, and even blistex/carmex in my opinion (well, for me anyway
) - it was an absolute lifesaver on my lips.
Simple Kind to Lips Intensive Lip Moisturiser
You should be able to get it in your local boots or superdrug.0 -
I haven't got time to read all the other replies carefully but I used to suffer from this really badly due to medication I was taking. I was told that lip balms and moisturisers etc only hold the moisture in and soften the skin so if you are really dry you could try to drink more water to replenish from within, so to speak."It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. I think if you exfoliate gently first, (some people use a soft toothbrush) to remove any dry skin, it will leave the surface receptive to whatever cream you apply.
Do you know why they've become dry? Some lipsticks can be really drying. Have you got enough good oils in your diet?
I find the Body shop hemp Hand protector excellent, they do a stick for lips in the same range.

Lush do some great lip balms (see here), which work for me. My lips can get very dry occasionally unless I use their products.
My current favourite is "let them eat cake", which is only available at certain times of the year, so not currently showing on their website.0
