Mattress advice?

-
Please keep this thread on topic.
What's wrong with going off-topic?
The purpose of this site is to help people save money so we'd prefer people to keep MoneySaving discussions on the main boards on topic. Taking them off-topic can be confusing for new users and in discussions linked to from the weekly email/guides/news stories/blogs makes it especially difficult for people to find the information they want.
If you've been asked to keep a thread on track but this hasn't happened, off-topic posts may be removed. We encourage community, but not thread derailment. The Forum Team has therefore been instructed to prioritise its time on the MoneySaving boards and not the ones dedicated to off-topic discussion; The MoneySavers' Arms and Discussion Time. For more about those please read What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
Arguments and name calling do not help anyone trying to find helpful tips and advice about buying a mattress.

So you're a full time fire fighter, a full time bed sales man and yet you have time to sit on here ALL day posting...I think one might find you are really unemployed??
If you know so much about me (as you seem to think you do), you would know what mattress I have.0 -
sleepcrusader wrote: »Is it? Ah, well, never mind. I'm sure it is also against forum rules to personally insult someone yet that is exactly what you have done to me if you care to scroll back.
Anyway...this all started cos I didn't agree with your opinion regarding certain mattresses. Can we agree to disagree and move on? Or would you like to carry on trading insults?
Actually if you scroll back, you started personally insulting me.0 -
sleepcrusader wrote: »You called me a troll. At the time I was unaware what that was so took it as a personal insult. Now I know what it means I still consider it an insult. You set yourself up as some sort of knight in shining armour but really you are just a bully with a small army of sycophants. I have tried to clean up this discussion and make it more adult but you keep on dragging it back into the gutter. Can you please accept that someone's opinion may just differ from yours? Is that too much to ask?
It's not a discussion, it's a tide of personal abuse from you (under different names).
It's not just a different opinion, because if you really are in the bed trade, then you would know that what I say is actually true. Instead you make personal insults, tell poeple that what I say is all rubbish, and whatever I say you would just say the oposite.0 -

Yes I am a full time firefighter. I work 42 hours a week, but there are 168 hours in a week, so I do the equivalent to full time hours doing both. I also spent 16 years in electroplating. I do however make sure that I know the job I am doing, this sort of comes in handy having this atitude when you are a firefighter, as it can save your life. So I do the same in the bed business, just as I did in electroplating.
I don't actually have to spend hours on here, because I get an automated e-mail each time someone posts in a thread I'm subscribed to.
So is there anything else you want to know about me, or are you just being nosey? After all it's none of your business is it.
I'm again confused by your comments. I didn't ask anything about you, yet you ask if I'd like to know anything else about you?
You will have to accept I simply don't believe what you say, or your motives for spending so much time on this site. I have read the incredibly lengthy "which mattress" thread which transpired to be one of the biggest wastes of time I have endured.
Basically, it is a repetitive commentary from you, telling everyone and anyone that the bed or mattress they have seen/liked, or are just about to buy, is ;
- poor quality
- overpriced
- made by silentnight (shock horror)
,
This is punctuated by a string of people taking exception to your aggressive, bully like tone. Then there are huge rows with other people who claim to know the bed industry that point blank refute your opinions (which you refer to as "FACTS") and you run them off here as well!
This forum is for everyone, and should be a great resource for real owner/user experiences. But no one dares mention anything they like or have tried that doesn't fit your criteria for fear of being made to look a fool.
In my personal opinion, there can be no such thing as the perfect bed. A mattress must be one of the most subjective and personal things a person can buy, and therefore no one type can be the best solution for everyone.
Granted, there is reliability and specification to get to grips with, but after that it is surely a very personal and tactile purchase. Therefore, stating that a certain version is superior to another is akin to saying you bought the wrong dog or animal.
I conclude that I have wasted too much time looking at the info on here as I really have learned nothing - it's really just ego's and covert advertising of the beds the main contributors sell in their shops!0 -

It is awful that visitors to this website rely on such poor and false information! I am making it my mission to counter your opinions and to help people make unformed choices about their beds!
That's what you have been doing all along. The fact is that most of what you have said even goes agains common sense. So it isn't difficult for people to work out that the only reason you are on here is to cause trouble.....which is what a troll is.0 -

You started trying to tell people about me. The fact is you know almost nothing about me, and it is none of your business anyway.
So do you claim to be a bed expert as well?
The reason I started posting on here was because I have trackers on my web sites, so I can see how people have found my sites. I followed a link back to a forum thread on MSE where a previous customer had recommended my site. So I started reading som of the threads, and was horrified by much of the rubbish that people were being told in bed shops by sales staff desperate to get a sale. So being the sort of person I am I started telling people the truth about all the hype, gimmicks, and lies that are used in the bed industry (I don't doubt for a second that this is the same in many retail industries). I deliberately use my own name, with no reference to my business, and as many people will tell you, I won't give out this information by PM either, or by any contact initiated through MSE. All of the information I give is 100% honest, and is gained through a huge amount of time spent researching and talking to both the industry, and to consumers. Consumers are often one of the best sources of information, because they will give you long term feedback on products, and not just what a product was like when it was new. I also work very closely with the manufacturers to develop beds and mattresses that are designed for the consumer, rather for commercial reasons. As I said I make it my business to make sure that I know what I am talking about. Most of the things that sleepcrusader is coming out with, is the hype, gimmicks, and lies that I talked about earlier. And it is the same sort of rubbish that you will hear in many of the big bed stores, where many of the sales staff don't really know much about the products they are selling, but will tell you black is white to get a sale. Gimmicks like non turn mattresses and pillow tops are promoted by these big stores, because they are another gimmick often used to con the customers. Just like the Dreams price promise, when most of the items they sell have been re-named, so you can't buy them anywhere else, so they can get away with charging high prices.
All of the above is 100% truth. So if you don't believe me, then just ignore me, because there are many MSE members who will back me up.0 -
i am far more likely to believe Tim than the rest for the simple fact that he has devoted so much time and effort giving advice whilst always using his real name and never divulging the details of his business .That says it all for me.Thats what MSE should be about and I hope he carries on .Having said that the squabble which has ensued here is undignified so i hope the protagonists put a stop to it.Really, this site needs to be better moderatedArgentine by birth,English by nature0
