Iphone/ blackberry, need help, no idea where to start

DH has decided he NEEDS a phone which allows hm to check/send emails etc.

I have no idea where to start ( currently have a 14.99 phone)

Is a iphone better than blackberry?

PAYG or contract?

Any advice welcome, we really have no clue about where to start.

HTC phones are great. Look into the HTC desire or Wildfire.

there is not a better one generally speaking but there will be a better one for each individual.

for example i have iphone i can send recieve email aswell as use ipod, watch films at work;) and even use for phone and text.the iphone is better for me than a blackberry would be.

apart from email, phone and text would he use phone for anything else also what budget per month does he have?

I switched from blackberry to iphone mainly because I hated the email client on the iphone which was useless.

It would only let me view my inbox and hid all my other folders.

It would not sync correctly and would often show emails a "unread" which had been read.

It probably works well for BES (business users) but BIS is broken in many respects.

Also it is the only phone that will only work with a "bolt on" which is usually an extra £5 per month.

I don't agree with the above, I'm on my second Blackberry and had no problems what so ever with either, nor has my partner. Neither of us are business users.

Either way you'll need some sort of bolt on to go online/check emails etc, and I'm sure on Orange they cost about the same, so it makes no difference?

I'm sure OP said DH not child lol

But yeah, go into a phone shop and let him have a play on both, see which he thinks he'd get on with. Then browse around for the best prices.

PAYG is good as you're not tied to anything, but the phones are very expensive, so sometimes works out cheaper to go on contract.
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

Not a "bolt on" as such, i just pay for the data that I use which costs me 2.5p+vat per MB. I don't use much 3g data so it's far less than £5 per month normally.
  • I see. I use a fair bit so would probably work out cheaper for me personally anyway.

I have been using Blackberry Push mail (BES & BIS) for a long time and always had emails delivered and read.

The issues that you've mentioned seems that you haven't set the phone to perform to your needs.

Only very recently my BIS phone decided to take a dump due to OS related issue. Which even the technical team cannot figure out due to Blackberry's inbuilt security. (They are contacting Blackberry directly)

    iPhone or Blackberry
I'd say that iPhone is leading the way with apps with few more gimmicks to pursue potential customers to jump on their "i" bandwagon. (i.e. Compass)
Also, they are trying to take the bite into the business world with their OS updates etc. Weak points; Battery life, fragile device, pay per app, hardware is already old, in comparison to the other smartphones out there.

Blackberry, on the other hand. Have always had the niche in business world. With their market heading towards the consumers in the past years. (i.e. BB Curve etc)
Weak points; Slow web browser (even on 3G), and lacking the "snappy" feeling you'd get from iPhone or better yet an Android phone. Apps are not on par with iPhone, in terms of sheer number of apps. It is definitely more durable than "iGlass" (sorry had to). A tactile qwerty keypad. A FREE BB Messenger (anyone in your contacts lists with BB can text for free no matter where you live). Also their inbuilt security is next to none.

The choice comes down to what you really want to use it for.
Watching movies in transit? Browsing the web? Push email? Music? Easy Sync features? Apps? Games? Battery life? you get the picture.

After writing this, I'm not so sure myself...my needs vary from day to day.
