I didn't mention the boards. I was referring to loads of people I know in real life.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

black-saturn,
They are out there! Like I said I act as an agent for my BIL (he lives in Oz) and I'd like to think we treat people well.
The last two houses I rented also had good landlords. Infact, the one-before-last we still see as we became very good friends with his daughter who lived upstairs. We even went to his wedding!0 -

Now I am confusedblack-saturn wrote:OK but this is the first thread I've seen on here with a positive landlord experience. Every thread I've ever seen on here has been from people with landlord problems and/or not having deposits returned.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

I asked what time as I would like to be there and they said they didnt know, just sometime after noon. Can they do this? They then said if I wasn't about they would let themselves in as they have given me warning.
If you tried something similiar, what do you think landlord would do,
you'd be out !!!
Barricade the door, don't let them in & call the police.

""Typical landlord"
there is no such thing as a typical landlord - just like there is no such thing as a typical tenant
i am a member of National Landords Association and i sometimes wish that tenants who have had such awful expereinces, could come to one of our meetings, as generally, landlords/ladies are mature in years, and legislation-compliant to the extreme.
We treat, and talk about, our tenants with respect, as, they are loooking after our assets.
You are perfectly entitled to complain about your individual experiences of pooor landlords, but, PLEEEEEEEEEeeeese
do NOT tar us all with the same brush.
more than half of my portfolio houses single parents mums - many many landlords just refuse to do that - and i do my best for them.
Sometimes it is the system/legislation which prevents either party getting a fair deal, due to many governments refusal to continue to take responsibility for social housing.
If you want a good landlord, chose one who is a member a professional body (check it out) and one who has several proerties and has been doing it for a few years.
new btl amateurs often do not have a clue, thinking they can make huge profits quickly. its just not like that.0 -
i detect a lot of bad feeling from tenants about LLs on this post, some of which without good reason. jealousy springs to mind. i treat all my tenants like family and all of them have been excellent. where would tenants be without LLs?0

Thank You clutton. I am a landlord through slightly unusual circumstances and let out the house I used to live in and own outright.
I am quite happy to admit that I don't know a great deal about the business so therefore use a well established, reputable agent to manage the property for me. This costs me 10% of the rent +VAT. I've always agreed and paid for any repairs tenants have requested promptly and redecorated between each tenant. In other words I think I've done everything I can to be a good landlord.
Even so, one previous tenant still owes me £1000 and the present tenants who have given notice will not respond to my requests for an appointment to inspect my own property.
As for making loads of money, I would probably do just as well putting the money in the bank. Thta's why I am selling up and there will be one less property available for people to rent.0 -
