Buying in bulk when the offers are there

i do buy more than usual if things are on offer but only if it is something we normally buy. i dont have much storage space , but i recently stocked up on tresemme products as its half price0

I have only recently taken over weekly shopping duties for the family but I have learnt by going to the same supermarket week in week out, how they cycle and repeat offers. So what I have been doing is buying in bulk everytime a non date affected item is on sale at really good price. I am lucky enough not to have to stick to tight budget every week as clearly this technique does mean an increase in cash flow at the start, however over time huge savings can be made. Just today as an example I bought over 20 packs of Aquafresh toothpaste at just 50p each (normally £1), 6 1kg packs of Uncle Ben's rice at £1.98 each (half price again). Other items at substantial savings i.e. 30-50% over the past months have included Napolina peeled plum tomatoes, Green Giant sweetcorn, Radox showergels, Coca Cola, Orange juice, PG Tips, Napolina Penne pasta, Ariel gel washing up powder, Comfort, L'Oriel shampoo and conditioner, Head & Shoulders. Basically, if it is on offer at a substantial discount; non-perishable and something we will definately consume/use then I just buy it! Anyone else doing this?
Yes i always do this. Even though i don't have to stick to a budget i just bulk buyIt's Britney !!!!!!:T0 -
The way I look at it is to compare what I can save bulk buying special offers with the ludicrous return on saving accounts today. Money on deposit is getting around 2.5% at best. It makes a lot more sense, then, to take advantage of offers on non-perishable essentials, where you can save many times that.
It's worth more as washing powder on your shelves than it is as money in the bank!0 -
Hear Hear A.Badger I've been telling my OH that for years! He thought I was nuts at first, he was always moaning that I had too many tea bags, till one day we ran out and had to pay full price, I sent him for them LOL. He never complained about me bulk buying again.1st Purse £114.19 Monthly GB:rotfl::j:wave::j:rotfl:

I buy a few month's worth of stock if it's something we use regularly (I mean a product we use all the time, I'm not too fussed about the brands, although it is great when an offer makes named brands cheaper than the supermarkets own
)
We don't have much space, so my husband tends to moan at me, and all of the family laughs at me because so much of what we have in the house has the Tesco yellow labels on. They'd soon notice the drop in our standard of living if I didn't do it though!
I've also got a garage full of cleaning products from a Tesco till split a few months ago which gave I think about £6 off if you spent £60 or £70 on cleaning products - and loads of Tesco cleaning products were reduced to £1, so I was adding it up as I went and my trolley was getting fuller and I felt like I was struggling to spend enough - happy days!0 -
I went shopping today and prices are going up and up! Not just meat, but chocolate and cereals too. If things are going to keep rising at this rate i'm thinking it might be worth bulk buying now as these items have long shelf lives. Anyone else do this?0

This is more appropriate for the shopping boardso I've moved it over.
Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Yep we do. I buy things and have a huge larder in the garage so I can buy cheap and store till needed. It makes perfect sense if you have the space.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Whenever things are on offer or reduced i tend to stock up, but am fortunate that i have a larder and two large freezer for my goodies
I tend to buy about 6 months worth of dry goods and always check the date when purchasing.0 -
i also but when its on special - got 9 persil 42 wash for £18 at the start of ~July should have been nearly £62-63, but i've now got enough washing powder to last me until about March, i bought 10 lots of elida shampoo on thursday that was 2 for £1 rather than £1.70 each so basically spent £10 instead of £34,tesco had 3kg of pasta down to £2 from £3.70ish so have 2 bags to see us through a couple of months always have about £20 in the budget to do this every month and have started a "January" box as January is such a long month, so far 6 tins of beans, 9 loo roll, 4 tins tuna, tin corned beef, 2 bread mixes, 2 packets of flour, and will add a couple of bits and pieces each week so hopefully come January will have most of my shopping apart from the fresh/frozenskintbint x
