You are joking, sure there wasn't dead dogs in the canal? I'm from Swinton (about 10 miles down the road) originally, and then I moved to Astley for a whle so I know leigh quite well - you are right there are nicer placesI am a Mortgage Adviser

What I don't understand is why people buy pedigree dogs and get bored with them, then sell them like a commodity? Surely if they had a heart they would send it to the appropriate breed rescue organisation?I am a Mortgage Adviser

That's exactly the reason I was SO disappointed when Top Gear got that Labradoodle dog, doesn't really set a good example.0 -
Just like to say what a nice person you must be. If anything like this should happen to my dog, then I would like to think that someone like you would care for her.
I would also like to add my disgust with the RSPCA, and add to the many stories.
My neighbour keeps (kept) a rabbit, two cats (one kitten). She likes to go away for long weekends and leave them all. One very hot weekend over the summer I noticed the rabbit in it's hutch without any water/food and in a very poor state. (lots of flies and very smelly) Not knowing how long she would be away for and been very concerned for the rabbit I called the RSPCA. I told them the situation and they said they would send someone round, I waited and waited, in the end I climbed over her fence and fed and watered it myself.
I then got a phone call the next day from the RSPCA asking me what state the rabbit was in, I explained that if It had not been for me feeding/watering it then it would have been much worse. Anyway the RSPCA came out eventually, by this time she had returned. The next day her husband cleaned it out.
A few weeks later the same thing happened, this time though her cats were locked in the house. (Don't know much about cats, but I know they can't feed themselves.) I called the RSPCA again and they said they would send someone round, again the next day they called, and put a note through her door.
To cut a long story short, yesterday it was pouring down and they came home for lunch, her husband started cleaning out the rabbit in the rain! This I thought to be very strange as they never clean it out!! I now believe the rabbit has probably died due to them mis-treating it. Just can't prove it or do anything.
The worrying thing is she also has two cats, the youngest one is just a kitten and is riddled with fleas. Wonder how long this poor thing has to suffer for?
These people should be banned from keeping animals, why didn't the RSPCA do anything?0 -
I have posted before about my absolute determination never to give the RSPCA a penny again. MY dying Aunt lived 2 miles from their Blackberry farm centre near Aylesbury. She was about to go into a hospice, no one to take cat (I am allergic) THEY DIDN't WANT TO KNOW.
They have so much money, but when people ask for help...0 -
Just had to post as my heart is breaking for that poor dog. I do hope you give him the loving home he deserves and that he doesn't end up back with people so useless that they let him escape and get hurt.
I just don't understand how people could part with a dog once they have one. My DH is alergic to rabbits, if the pet alergy ever extends to the dog - he knows exactly who will be moving out!!0 -
The OP has done a truly wonderful deed, and it's heartwarming to know that there are people who will put themselves out to help a sick animal. I have heard far too many tales of the RSPCA, and would never ask for their help in an emergency.
Well done missus, you're a star!0 -
I would just like to add my bit as an animal lover i think you are an absolute angel and hope the dog leads a happy life hopefully with you as you definitely seem to be a caring person, i help out run a pet forum site and have to say the stories ive heard about the rspca are shocking to say the least up until i had heard the stories i too donated to them.
I now sponsor a dog from the dogs trust0 -

We are obviously animal lovers on this thread so what do you think about the two dogs that killed a baby in a pub the other day? I think that dogs over a certain size should be licenced. That system works really well in parts of the USA and they have it because of insurance. There is no NHS so if your dog bites someone you pay the medical bill , well your house insurance does but not if your pet weighs more than 25lb. So you can have a cat, bird or a small dog under an ordinary insurance policy but if you want a bigger dog you have to pay more. I get so upset when idiots buy large dogs with a guarding instinct and do not give them the care and attention they need. The poor dogs always end up being put down.0
