    This made me chuckle :D

Let's face it, XP or 7, but Vista ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I have computers with Vista and Windows 7 and the performance is about the same. Windows 7 is based on Vista as well.

Laughs at another person who obviously stuck in the mindset of Vista's 2007 release date. Things did change when the service packs were released you know.

I mentioned Vista because of cost and the fact it supports DX11.

I like the way you edited my quote to make yourself (try and) look funny. It actually read "Your on the right track in suggesting wiping clean and installing Windows 7 (or even Vista if money needs to be saved). Being a powerful machine it deserves a decent operating system anyway dont you think"
  • I suspect that the reason that your client has TinyXP on a modern computer is that XP driver support is not brilliant for modern peripherals. TinyXP comes with driver packs which support some modern equipment that classic XP does not support (because XP was deprecated before the equipment was first offered). I suspect that your client did not want to use Vista for some reason and asked his computer guy to install XP, even though the latter would have known that it wouldn't work properly. It might be worth trying to convince your client to upgrade to Windows 7 as this resolves most of the idiotic problems that Vista introduced.

Cane, don't take it to heart....we all know XP is better than vista, and 7 is what vista should have been when it was released...of these 3 OSs, vista is by far the worst IMHO. p.s. I'm not a linux lover, but I think I even prefer Puppy Linux to vista
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I actually agree with you. Vista's release was a let down, DX10 was a farce (remember the Crysis patch for XP which enabled features so say only capaple on Vista running DX10!) and countless other issues over the course of its life.

I look back now and i'm thinking to myself "why the hell am I defending Vista" so no hard feelings! ;)

my general thought are that your mate has been shafted, a computer which has got duel graphics cards, quad core cpu and a 'ahem' copy of windows but only uses it for office work and browsing the web has been done over one way or another- unless the system was got from the back of a white van and he paid very little for it.

anyway i would also suggest getting a proper copy of windows 7 (if there is a child/student in the house you can get the cheaper version)

otherwise if only using it for office and the net i would say to check out Ubuntu (Linux) this has more than enough functionality for those purpose's, includes open office as standard for the office needs (its compatiable with microsoft office) and doesnt get virus's so mkaes it much more secure when going online and is totally free :D and generally the only extra's i have found people need to download when they go this route is the restricted extra package which includes many non open source codec's such as MP3 and flash
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Mint Linux (Ubuntu source not the new Debian) will play anything.
Full featured desktop with lots of optional eye candy - If you like that sort of thing. It's what Ubuntu should be.
    OR
pclinuxos will do the same stuff but is mandriva based
