Wireless signals 100% but not connecting?

Hi,
I just want one last attempt to fix the wireless connection on my sons computer, before I go and buy a homeplug kit!
The wifi dongle broke (after he kicked it) on my sons computer, so I have bought a new one.
However despite getting 100% signals the internet connection just won't connect it just keepts attempting to connect. I have scoured the internet for a soloution and tried every suggestion from changing the channel, a different usb port, different dongles to installing a small programme to fix the registry. Nothing seems to work.
The router is a Philips CGA5722 and is installed downstairs, my sons computer is in his bedroom directly above the router and used to connect with a BT dongle. My husbands computer in our bedroom also connects. We have tried swapping dongles... my husbands dongle also gets a good signal but wont connect in my sons bedroom.
Any suggestions greatfully received.

when you say not connecting, do you mean it's connected but still trying to acquire a network address, or not connecting at all ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

The kicked dongle fell apart and was damaged beyond repair. (Had been repaired once before).

The correct password is in Uppercase. However I have tried lowercase just in case it helped! And I have entered and re-entered it many times. It always works on my husbands pc!

It connects as in it finds the router and gets 100% signal and 100% link quality. Even if it actually connects to the internet for a few seconds it just disconnects and tries to connect again. It is always trying to aquire a network address (or assign an IP address) I have checked the protocols are set to auto etc.,

It is quite possible that they just aren't compatible with each other. Its rare but it isn't unknown for one router chipset not to get along with a certain wifi chipset.0

We have tried several wifi dongles and all work in another PC with the router, but just not in my sons.

Not sure about dongles but I had a similar problem. My router was set to channel 'AUTO'. I think this caused some interference with another router close by. Changed broadcast channell to channell 2 and it's been fine since.0
