If he has a cold, try getting some baby vick (check its ok for his age) from boots, you can get one called "snufflebabe" and smear a little of it on your breast, on the part that is under his nose.
He may be really congested and finding it hard to feed? Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

And finally - I have a RL mummy friend who successfully BF her son well past his first birthday using only one boob...so it can be done....
Hi freebie!
My little one is 11 months on Sunday and he had been breastfed from just 1 boob for the whole time so it's not too much of a big deal if he really doesn't want to feed from 1 side.
And yes, I am VERY lopsided :rotfl:
David is through to the last 16 of a cute baby/child/family competition. He gets a professional photo shoot on Sunday (free :j) and then the photos go to a public vote. I am going to be begging for your help soon. I think it was this photo that I entered ....

This is what I was about to suggest!
DS was a hungry baby so to ensure he was really draining each breast I'd feed him 'normally' first, then tuck him under my arm for another go on the same side- that way he could emty all the way round. He did then have a phase of not wanting one side or the other and I fed him underarm on both sides. A friend has experienced a similar phase too and underarm feeding helped trick her LO into feeding happily. If it continued you could get your GP to check for ear problems as that may make it uncomfortable to lie on one side.
I agree with the other posters- put all thoughts of a routine out of your head for now! YOUR routine will develop over the next few weeks, months or years :rotfl:They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

The rugby ball hold is a good idea too, as is lying on your side to feed him. To do that, get comfy on your side and lie him on his side facing you. You could try it when he's not screaming for food, ie relaxed, and you've expressed first so it's not going to come in fast. Then let him lick and sniff and explore while you sing to him and stroke him. All the better if you strip him down to his nappy and you take off your top/clothes too, so you can have skin to skin contact and he can smell you and feel your warmth.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Hi
This is my first post in the parents thread, my ds is 30mths and I am currently pregnant due the 7th of Jan.
The reason for posting is to ask for help with ds and eating:
Basically he used to eat everything and anything never refused food of any kind, I used annabel karmel when weaning and he had eaten evrythin gto curry, olives, marmite by the time he was 1 and half, now and for the last 3months he just hardly eats a meal, (previously would have more if he could) he will eat cereals and then asks for fruit after which I have been doing as I'm concerned he's not eating other meals, if he has a snack midmorning its healthy, fruit, rice cakes, raisnins, carrots etc.
He will eat fruit, and yogurts, but as for getting him to eat a home made meal like cottage pie, sauages, mash and veg, any meat casserole etc (apart from spag bol) is just impossible, he will only eat sweetcorn as a veg. He will eat things like pizza and beans and pot wedges, the occasional fish finger, but even if we're out and having something unhealthy like chicken and chips he will only eat the chips. I cant even get thim to eat much of a sandwich anymore, he may eat just the ham or cheese and maybe a bit of bread.
I took him to dr's as I was concerned he was getting run down from lack of proper vitamins, protein etc, Dr didn't agree with giving a supplement, and that his suggestion was give him the meat he might eat at a push first before offering anything else.
Well we tried that, but not working, so this evening for example he had cottage pie and sweetcorn, he only ate the sweetcorn, if the mash would have been separate he would have eaten it. But he did eat it t nursery a few days ago.
Its just getting so frustrating, so today I have refused to give him yogurt or fruit after dinner, but that concerns me too as we are having a nightmare with him going to sleep too at bedtime, I wonder if this is because he doesn't have a full tummy?
I'm just so frustrated, any help or suggestions, I worked hard to get him to try and eat a variety of foods and now that feels a waste of time.
Thanks TF x0 -
welcome twoflower no advice but hope you get him to eat properly soon ...

twoflower, I think a lot of toddlers go through this phase. I know DD1 did... She used to eat anything and everything, then stopped eating a whole variety of things.. No pasta, nothing in a sauce, nothing with gravy... No pizza... Only chicken, no other meat etc... I believe it was a combination of trying to control the situation and also not wanting to waste time eating... I used to incorporate 1 thing I knew she liked into a meal and try small portions of other things... At first I used to give her a peice of fruit before bed so she wasn't going with an empty tummy but as she got older and I knew she understood the consequenses then she didn't get anything else if she didn't eat her food...
Also, I stopped giving her sandwiches for a while because she was picking them apart and just eating the middle so I would give her a bowl of sandwich innards (ham and cheese, cucumber etc) and cut a piece of bread and butter into fingers to make it more interesting...
She still goes through phases now, she was in bed at 6pm 2 days in 2 weeks for not eating her vegetables (and arguing back about them...) but on the whole she will try things before she writes them off now... I think you just have to persevere...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

SS - hope all goes well at the doctors.
Aless  at the internal candidate. Hope they fluffed the interview.My_Fathers_Daughter wrote: »Has anybody seen any toddler halloween costumes?
Home Bargains had loads in all different sizes last time I was in.
Cbeebies presenters - I really can't stand Sarah Jane. Her voice is so irritating and it just grates on me.Ps. I wanted Peppa pig underpants, they only do George ones which annoyed the life out of us both, he very nearly wore knickers :rotfl:
Charlotte had an accident at nursery the other week. They'd had a spate of accidents and had no spare knickers left, so she came home in a pair of underpants. She was extremely excited about them and lifted her dress to show me in the middle of the school drive:rotfl:

I stupidly read the Gina Ford book which made me feel like a failure so have stuck it back on ebay!!
That's the best thing you ever did with that book
Hope you get the feeding problem sorted out. I know it sounds stupid but are you relaxed when you feed? Babies pick up so easily on tension and they tense up and misbehave! Find something you like on the TV, put your feet up and chill out while he feeds, and you might find he takes more milk from the left boob.
And worse, I feel so bloody guilty for falling while I was carrying her!
Well I'm sure you didn't fall on purpose did you?It was an accident and you did the best you could to save her, so stop feeling guilty. Hope she is ok xx

Have you tried letting him help prepare food. I find Charlotte always eats more if she has had imput into choosing and preparing our meals.
She even eats things I don't think she'll like. I had coleslaw in a sandwich the other day which I knew she disliked before, but she had to put some in her sandwich and then she ate it and said it was nice!
I did a 3D TV demo today on a mystery shop today and I was really impressed. Got a proper demo with the glasses on and the pictures were amazing. I watched the Liverpool match and then when I got outside the shop I realised my purse had been stolen
Apologies to Liverpool supporters. I posted that in the mystery shopping thread and someone thought I was being seriousHere I go again on my own....0 -
Thanks for advise Krystal, will try your ideas, I suppose I'm just worried he is not eating any protein at all.
And becles, must have been replying when you posted!0
