If he's stood on the floor he'll find a toy under his feet to stand on rather than standing on just the floor.

This sounds just like mine.... she is currently stood on her toy drum watching peter pan! :)

kindof - soft baby carriers like mei tai or a wrap sling can also be used on the back (and will be cheaper than that). Plus then you will have invested something extremely versatile that can be used back & front and until E is a toddler. Popular brands are Joey, Kari Me, Moby, and a zillion others.

Oh dear I just made the mistake of getting the Argos catalogue out to look something up...now Finn is practically crying that I won't give it to him to rip up! Really should pick up a spare copy for him :p.

Thanks again guys, Its just I had read on here before about traumatic births possibly being linked to autism so with E having that, then doing the head shake I was like ARGH lol, but its ok, I am calm now, and I do think its just something he has learned

Kindof, from what I see at work traumatic birth and autism are often correlated - but that doesn't mean that the birth causes autism. Autism is a much more complex thing that I and the people writing the current crop of articles about it (who know much more than I do) don't believe can be caused by a traumatic birth. What may be of interest to you is the suggestion that developmental disorders may in some cases be avoided by making sure that the baby's spine and limbs haven't been knocked slightly off kilter by the process of birth - there are some osteopaths who claim to have prevented some developmental delays from escalating by making sure that the baby's body is properly aligned so nerve signals can pass through without being interrupted.

It's far, far more likely that autism is a very complex developmental model that can't be reduced to a series of probable causes. What we do know is that it seems to have a genetic component, an environmental component (which is, I suspect, where the birth trauma theory fits in) and an unknown component.

Most of the theories surrounding autism seem to blame the mother to some degree: either she's too old, or the birth wasn't optimal, or she wasn't affectionate enough or not stimulating enough or just not good enough. This is a flagrant pile of steaming, straw-filled bullsh*t and you should probably ignore it and concentrate on your lovely boy and how well you've done to make him what he is.

  • Afternoon all. sorry I'm a bit quiet today. Feel like I have two toddlers at home today. The littlest one is sat at her table eating rasins, the other one is having a nap!

Izzy is being everso cute. She now knows the numbers 1-4. She knows you use them when counting things, but not what they actually mean or what order they go in. I keep finding her counting her toys. two, three, two, two, one, two in a very serious voice :)

Tia, if you can't find the V5 to get rid of the Heap, would you consider hiding the keys for the other car so your OH can't drive it - if he needs to get somewhere in a car he'll have to take your heap :)

Or am I being very naughty?

  • SS, naughty, surely not ;)

Kindof, I'm pretty sure Izzy did that too. Nothing wrong with asking though, worrying on you own is what we don't want you to be doing!

Bruno - adding to MFD's singing, we also found that doing loud "shhhhhhh"s from a distance sometimes resettled Alice if done at the first sign of a whimper.
we have a radio set to in between channels in fergs room so it does a low quiet 'shhhhh' sound. We use this if he needs a longer nap because he's poorly or if he seems frightened for a bit in the night. It's a bit like 'shhhh'ing yourself, but you can go back to bed ;)

Lily hates having the argos catalogue taken off her. Most of the pages are ripped out!

I would let her have it, but she puts the paper in her mouth and stores it in the roof of her mouth and in her cheeks :rotfl:

    Clever Izzy :j
