At least you're aware he's communicating to you though so you can acknowledge it. The first year I worked on a special needs playscheme the people running it had written out little cards with information about the children on. One of the children was really badly behaved and had at least one tantrum every day. The next year we were just given the forms the parents filled in and it had descriptions of the signs he used to communicate various things. He was so much better that year. Poor child must have been telling us things the previous year and we had no idea so were completely ignoring everything he "said" to us.Because they use a lot of makaton at school, Chris has been 'talking' away to me in signs... and I don't know what half of them are! I have a book but really it's not great for learning from. Need to find a class or something, SALT has been 'arranging' one for over a year and a half.
(I'm afraid the whole thing was very poorly run.)
Perhaps you could try speaking to other parents and see if there are other people who are needing/wanting a class. If a few of you band together then it will put more pressure to actually provide a class. Also (when they actually get round to doing the class), it's probably worth seeing if another family member can go too. I went to a sign language class with my mum when I was seven because they thought my brother might be deaf.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I am so jealous of all your full size keypers! I only had the baby ones with the backs that you squeezed then couldn't get anything out of!
Also jealous of your big Montgomory Moose Krystal! I had the little plastic ones (altho I did have a kaboose house for them to live in!)
Also jealous of anyone who had big cuddle carebears....I had the little plastic ones (notice a theme here????)
I LOVED my little Pony. I had loads and was in the club every year where you got a really cute little baby one .
I was desperate for a baby gloworm and never got one.....I did however (yes you've guessed it!) have a collection of the little plastic globugs!
I was a big troll collector and Sylvanian Families. I think we have all our Sylvanian families in the loft....I so need a girl next!
Krystal - I have a samsung camera with rechargable batteries and they barely last a day! I HATE IT!!!
:T:T:T for clever Alfie
Jillie - our photoframe has a remote control too!! I've never used it until recently when I've need to swap the photos to pics of Thomas to help me express :rotfl:
We called those lolo balls JumpJumpers! My best friend had one in the late 80s/early 90s and I badly wanted one....I was carp on hers tho. I was much better with my skipit
EA - woah that's spooky!!!
3 - hobby horses were really easy to get hold of a few years ago....I got one for my friend's little boy for a fiver from the works. Sorry that doesnt help you now!! Might be worth trying ebay.It had a furry head and neighed when you pressed its ear.
I didn't get the shoes with the key
My mum said they weren't sturdy enough for me! I was allowed the hectictoc ones that had the game in the heel though

I have the same problem, Charlie will sign but i dont know what he is asking for. He gets frustrated and then wont take me to the thing but screams and shouts. I think the parents should be taught as otherwise its useless???Because they use a lot of makaton at school, Chris has been 'talking' away to me in signs... and I don't know what half of them are! How is everyone?
Erin has started to sign thank you and more! in the car today she started signing and saying more grapes! i obviously dont realise that i am signing to her aswell as Charlie(well the signs i know?) and she is picking them up.
Bed time for babies so im off again! What's for you won't go past you0 -
I had a mini keyper and a hard plastic care bear. (But I don't really know why I had them as I wasn't even bothered.)I am so jealous of all your full size keypers! I only had the baby ones with the backs that you squeezed then couldn't get anything out of!

I was in the My Little Pony Club too but presumably only for one year as I just had one baby one. Apparently the first time I ever asked for anything in particular (unless you count wanting a Christmas tree for Christmas) was when I was five and asked for Dream Castle. My mum says that she'd actually already got everything she planned to get for me when I said I wanted it but because I'd never actually asked for anything before she got it for me. She says I never actually played with the castle that much (I was more bothered about Majesty and Spike) but I told her that I remember that I still remember that I had it even if I didn't actually play with it that much.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

That's great that Erin is picking them up to as it means there's someone else who can understand him to some extent. You never know - she might be picking up other signs he uses which you don't understand.Erin has started to sign thank you and more! in the car today she started signing and saying more grapes! i obviously dont realise that i am signing to her aswell as Charlie(well the signs i know?) and she is picking them up.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Susan, I don't know any other families who need it. The other boy who uses it in the class is older than Chris.
I think I'll ask at college actually, they have a lots of the 'life skills' classes, which are basically respite care for special needs adults and a lot of them use makaton.
Speaking off college. I need an idea for my big project. It should be relating to biology and the human body, usually a disease or condition that requires treatment. And if it could be tied into another project on the business side, that would be great. So far, I'm thinking of infertility and treatments, simply because yet again, I've been looking at Embryology as a career and neighbour are thinking about ICSI again and I said I'd look into it. Either that or Plagiocephaly but I feel that would be a cop out since I have more than enough stuff to do a half hour talk already and I wouldn't be doing much research. It would look good, but I know I wouldn't have done the work (recently). Might spark my interest in prosthetics and orthotics again though? I'm also having to decide on a Uni course! lol
Nobody has to reply btw, I'm just playing with ideas
