MCO Capital loan

Hi Geomacl, it is confusing and it would be a great help if AF and NFIB participated in this forum. With the information from a great many victims and the investigative power of the authorities working together, issues like this would be resolved very quickly. Perhaps AF should run their own forum so they would effectively increase their capacity from 8 people to several thousand? Might save enough to keep the Harriers and Ark Royal?
Back on the case, has anyone had a letter from IJ after reporting the fraud to them? We need to build a profile on IJ so we can predict their likely actions down the line and be prepared.0 -
I sent a letter recently to IJ asking for written confirmation that no further action would be taken, as stated by them to me in a telephone call about 2 weeks ago. No response so far, but to be fair they have only had my letter a few days (partly because a 'signed for' first-class postal delivery took 4 days to get there...). I'll post if they do write back to me.
Note I've also written twice to MCO (at the Kingsway address) in the last two months or so - and had absolutely no response. They have had plenty of time to reply. Our second MCO 'loan' letters arrived 6 weeks after I'd first written to them following the first ones (sent by Gothia) and we'd already had written confirmation from Gothia that the loan had been returned to MCO and no further action would be taken.
This doesn't bode well for the new police/AF advice to contact MCO. As far as I'm concerned any company with a degree of integrity would at least acknowledge a letter, even if they can't deal with it straight away.0 -
I'll do the letter for IJ soon and I hope that'll be the end of it. My poor old Dad is actually really worried about this despite assurances that it'll be taken care of. His dementia makes it difficult to explain to him what's going on. These gits have a lot to answer for. Would like to get my hands on whoever did this to him. He told me tonight, "You never get rid of these people when they're after money."
I wonder how many other poor old souls there are up and down the country without much in the way of help to deal with this and who imagine they do actually owe money.
Cheers,
jahman0 -
grahamqat - I suspect that you are just as confused as I am!!!.
Now the advice seems to be don't contact AF for a CRN but contact MCO and Intrum Justitia and tell them to bog off? I despair.
If anyone from AF of NFIB are monitoring this site (as I'm sure they are) could they please clarify matters!!! SOONEST!!! People are still receiving letters - and some are receiving 2nd and 3rd letters!!
Now do you see why aside from these CRA parasites, I also detest these useless quangos?
Why oh why are we forced to put up with this when other useful public services are cut. Come to think of it, many useless are also cut at the expense of this organisation which is potentially DAMAGING to those who have taken it's advice....

Hi Alan, Jahman, Bridggar - thanks for the input. It's people like your Dad Jahman that these criminals prey on. If you weren't around to help and advise him he could easily end up paying it just to avoid future problems. As we said before, indications are about 10,000 victims involved so 1% strike means >£50,000. Letters are still going out so MCO are presumably still defrauding money, even though their office is full of Fraud Squad!
Neither AF or NFIB are on the Home Office list of qangos to be axed/merged etc. I think though that as each day passes and more people are made victims of this scam, NFIB are appearing to be increasingly disfunctional. It is vital that they not only investigate, but put measures in place to prevent more victims falling foul of this. They also need to communicate with the public more effectively and make sure advice on their web-site is not contradictory to that on the AF web-site. Rant over.0 -
Just noticed that NFIB have reworded their web-site to bring it in line with AF as follows:
"MCO Capital update - Oct 18
The City of London Police is working closely with MCO Capital as part of its ongoing investigation into an alleged loan-repayments fraud. The NFIB referred the case after it received an increasing number of reports, through Action Fraud, from people concerned their personal details had been used to obtain cash loans from the company.
Investigating officers are requesting individuals who have received notification of a loan taken out in their name that they have not applied for to write to the Finnish-based company to register the fraud. Affected people should address letters to:
Intrum Justitia Ltd of 5th Floor, The Plaza 100 Old Hall Street, Liverpool L3 9QJ.
This will result in any enforcement action to reclaim the loan being halted whilst police enquiries continue. In the letter people need to confirm their name and address and that they did not take out the loan. No other information is required.
Potential victims no longer need to report false loans related to MCO through to Action Fraud, and if they have already reported to Action Fraud they do not need to contact MCO. The police will ensure MCO is aware of the false loan report. The police would like to reassure anyone who has made a crime report that no financial details will be shared with the company in this process."
There is reference in the extract above to the Finnish-based company being contacted at Intrum Justitia. Don't know if this is just clumsy wording, or the police are now treating MCO and IJ as one entity?0 -

Think it's more that as MCO appear to have sold the debt onto IJ then IJ become the people to advise that you haven't applied for or received a loan. I don't think it's that the two companies are being linked.0 -

- does this NFIB statement mean that people have to write to MCO at the IJ address. That said, contacting IJ is a lot easier than contacting MCO AND they can remove the alleged loan from their database - as they have done for many of us!

Slightly different wording on City of London Police web site dated 19 October, 2010, namely
"Force launches investigation into loan repayment fraud
The City of London Police has launched an investigation into an alleged loan repayment fraud.
Fraudsters are suspected of using people’s personal details and a Finnish-based loans company, MCO Capital, to obtain payments for cash loans. Detectives are now working with the company.
The case was referred to the force by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), who had analysed an increasing number of Action Fraud crime reports on the issue.
The investigations team is advising anyone who has received notification of a loan taken out in their name, which they have not applied for, to register the fraud by writing to MCO Capital at:
Intrum Justitia Ltd of 5th Floor, The Plaza 100 Old Hall Street, Liverpool L3 9QJ.
This will result in any enforcement action to reclaim the loan being halted while police enquiries continue. Please confirm in the letter your name, address and that you did not take out the loan. No other information is required.
If you have already reported a suspected fraud to Action Fraud, you do not need to contact MCO Capital. ""
This is slightly more clear re the writing of a letter to MCO - namely, use the IJ address:cool:0 -
Here's one for you Geomacl. When you contact MCO/IJ etc they say the loan is blocked/cancelled without question. You don't need to prove you didn't get a loan. This means that ID fraud and legit applicants could do the same and walk off with the money, with the debt cancelled as well. Obviously there is a flaw in this. The immediate response from MCO/IJ to cancel the loan can only mean they know there was never a loan in the first place, or in reality all loans will be pursued vigorously regardless of what MCO/IJ tell you. Only time will tell.0
