  • I called IJ on 24th Sept (the day I received the dreaded letter) on 0844 576 5731. I spoke to an advisor who sounded very resigned, as if I was the 100th person that day calling about the same problem. She told me that she would put a block on my account (not quite sure what that means). Anyway there were real people answering the IJ number a couple of weeks ago.

0844 576 5731 is an IJ number. I tried it and it hung up after saying 'Thankyou for calling Intrum Justitia' I then called the switchboard number 0151 472 7155, to get through to them. They took the reference number off my letter and told me to contact AF to get a CRN, which I'd already got....a strange thing to do if they're more involved in this? Not really sure what the advice is now on the thread about calling them to put a stop on the account.

If anyone is calling IJ then use 0151 472 7155 it's a lot cheaper than using their 0844 number.

I don't think IJ are part of the fraud just the debt collectors MCO decided to use.

Hi Mike, I did get an e-mail reply about a month ago as follows:

    Good Afternoon

Thank you for your email which has been duly noted.

Please be advised that we have closed the account and MCO Capital Ltd will investigate this matter. You will not receive any further correspondence
    from us.

    regards

    Alessandro

So earlier on you could get a reply but I would think the e-mail address is now inactive - unless someone tells us different? Incidentally the account was not closed as I received a second letter from Helploan.

Hi Geomad, now that AF believe MCO are the fraud and not the victims, there's not a lot of point in the fraudsters continuing the illusion by answering e-mails, phone calls, and co-operating with Experian to remove MCO credit checks. This may mean it is now more difficult to clear the MCO check from your Experian credit report. It would be interesting to know if this is the case, as it would confirm the current theory.
Experian have told me that they will remove the MCO checks in 30 days from when I registered my complaint if MCO (whom they have contacted asking for "permission" to remove the check) even if MCO don't respond. Goodness knows why they need MCO permission?? I think that I'll have to take my credit check custom elsewhere!!!!

Interesting that Oldbloke - so IJ and Helploan are one and the same. Current advice from AF (not sure about from this thread) is:

"You are also being advised not to contact MCO Capital Limited directly."

This was first put on their web-site on 1st October and I think remains unchanged. I've just tried the MCO number (0844 5762340) and there is a message redirecting you to a new number: 0844 879 7688. When you phone this you get a menu around getting a loan or checking on a loan status. Do you recognise this number at all?

No, and I wouldn't advise contacting that number.

I don't think IJ and Helploan are the same. IJ just use the Helploan banner to identify the letter. IF they have been scammed (as I think), then they're just trying to recover what they think are legitimate loans. If IJ have bought the book debt, then they're the ones who have physically lost money!

Grahamqat - I was not as fortunate as you were - my response email from Helploan is as below except that I have deleted my original message at the bottom and changed my ID and email address.
Four days later I got a word processed email from dear old Niklas.
The interesting thing about this email is the "From", "Date", "To" and "Subject" - they have been changed into what look like a Scandinavian language (Finnish?)

Hi David, IJ, Balanceloan, Helploan, MCO are all the same entity. When you call Helploan on 0844 5765731 you get a recording "Welcome to Intrum Justitia".

That's exactly the response I got from them....sounded very dejected.

They are not the same identity. IJ are the only legitimate trading company listed here.

When I called that number (believing it initially you be Helploans' number , because that's what it said on the top of the letter) the advisor told me they were not Helploan, they were the debt collection agency (ie Intrum Justicia). I do not think MCO/Helploan and IJ are the same.
