Hi Folks, just checked the OFT Consumer Credit Licence search web-site, and found these new licences applied for yesterday by MCO Capital.

    ....

    Paycheckcredit: Pending
    Popcredit: Pending
    Speedcredit: Pending

Well spotted! I just tried a whois search for these names and found that

    Paycheckcredit.co.uk
    Popcredit.co.uk
    and
    Speedcredit.co.uk

    were registered on
July 6th - 3 weeks after the OFT decided the UK could manage without any cap on interest rates.
  • Well that was quick! I asked Experian if I could specifically block MCO Capital and its numerous subsidiaries from searching my credit file. Here's the reply:

"It is not possible for us to prevent a company from searching your credit report. However, I note that you already have a password added to your report and this should help ensure that no fraudulent applications are allowed to proceed."

As we know from Alan's experience which he shared with us on this forum, MCO Capital ignored the notice of protection on his credit file. So there is no way for any of us to stop this happening again!

You might have thought it would be in Experian's interest to give extra protection to known victims of ID fraud as it will save them a lot of paperwork.
  • "Not possible" ?
  • "Not possible" ?

Yes - they sell our credit info for profit and it is 'not possible' to block specific companies from accessing our data.

This whole episode is opening my eyes to the vagaries and even limitations of the self elected companies known as CRAs. The time is suerly here when these companies need to review their practices and to look at whether or not they have a serious conflict of interests - they advertise that they are brokers for financial services (plus offering an energy selection service) and what we all thought them to be - independent credit reference authorities. The fact that they are commercially orientated must make them suspect in the credit business!!
Sorry to hear about your swift rebuff, Prudence. Not surprising though.

Interesting details re one of the new MCO domain names - who is Mpoli Oy?

    "Domain name:
    paycheckcredit.co.uk

    Registrant:
    Mpoli Oy

    Registrant type:
    Unknown

    Registrant's address:
    hiomotie 19
    helsinki
    00 380
    Finland"
  • Mpoli OY means roughly Mpoli PLC, I think, and its CEO is apparently our old friend Tuomo Mäki.

This country must be full of crooks, fraudsters and swindlers. I just had a telephone call half an hour ago from my Visa card provider to let me know that there were numerous attempts made to use my credit card this morning - one for a shop (HeSheUn in Copenhagen - whatever the hell that is!!!) and other attempts at different locations - all around the same time!!! And here I am virtually snowed in at home with my card in my pocket waiting to get it heated up doing my Xmas shopping - now that card has been cancelled - ba**ards!!!!
This is the 3rd time in the past 6 months or so for me - once for another credit card, then MCO Capital and now this.
