OP ignore the self righteous brigade. I think that people on here seem to forget that ears have been pierced since the year dot in a lot less sanitary places than Claire's, certain African tribes spring to mind and I can bet their conditions wouldn't meet regulations. Whilst Claire's isn't ideal it's not life or death, and fortunately the choice to pierce or not under the age of 16 still rests with the parent as we are still lucky enough to live in a society that recognises that sometimes a parent knows a little more about their own child and its maturity than a random keyboard warrior on the internet.

Anyway, as for the problem in hand, go back. Study the poster that advertises the service and see what it says, if it does state gold then go and ask in the first instance. If you get no joy wrote to head office.

In regards to the infection, if you boil up some water, add some sea salt and leave it to cool, then that can be used to treat infections..just dad/soak it on with an earbud...always worked a treat for me! =)
Its quick, easy, (almost) free, and works better than some of the special solutions out there!

agreed. I've healed all my piercings this way, just make sure you dont use too much sea salt as it can be quite drying.

Zandoni, you are not allowed to make personal insults on the forum, ie calling people idiots.
    .........and stop being a grubber.

    :D

Sorry, just saw some irony there. :D

OP, what outcome would you like from this? Even if Claire's were proved to be 100% in the wrong, I'm not sure what amends would be made that would be worth the time and hassle involved in pushing this.

Hope the girls' ears heal soon.

  • Thank you all who have given constructive advise. I did contact Clares head office and told them the situation. They looked into for me and responded advising that they pierce with 9ct gold and the butterfly are 24ct gold plated stainless steel. Apparently the staff should have known this. However this wasn't the case and it wasn't an isolated lack of knowledge, as exactly the same information (that the earrings and butterfly were 9ct gold) was given to me by another branch. Clares have apologised to me and have taken the matter up with the district manager. Do I take their letter on trust as I would hate others to go through the same experience.

Have they said they are going to get back to you - i would be looking for reassurance the district managers are going to do something
