    I agree with Zandoni.

I would contact their head office in the first instance and see what they have to say.

My daughter wanted to go there because that was where her friend was going so I took her there, but after seeing their set up I would not let her have it done there and we went to a jewelers around the corner instead. They had their own little private room with its own sink and were brilliant.(and they were even cheaper). She had no infection but her friend who had it done at the other place got an infection and it was so bad she let the holes close up.

Personally I think I would take more care of my kids than let them have their ears pierced at Claires, there have been plenty of warnings about them in the past and it shows having decorative earrings used for piercings, plain ones should be used first for hygiene reasons, plain stud, bar or sleeper type. It's a cheap shop for cheap stuff, A medically inert plastic keeper is better than an old fashioned coil butterfly for hygiene a sleeper ring instead of a stud is better still.

You are entitled to your money back or replacement for the earrings, you are probably onto plums as far as a refund for the charge if any for piercing. TS may have a word with them if you report them but most likely will not prosecute if they make the right noises. Eg. say staff will be trained, say the items came wrongly labelled and they will take it up to the supplier etc.

Infection aside, if they are described as 9ct Gold they shouldn't be plated.

Ignore the idiots on here and report them to trading standards, you could also phone their Head Office and see what they say.

Personally I would be very annoyed being conned like this.

I agree they shouldnt be. But i have seen shops do it - typically the shops i now avoid as if they're hiding something like that, what else are they hiding? Its only in the small print somewhere that its gold plated and not actual solid gold.

Are you posting on the same forum as the rest of us? There's much stronger insults that idiots chucked around and never removed.

Personally I don't think children under 16 should be legally allowed any form of Body Modification and that includes ear piercing.

As for the OP if they are sold as solid 9ct gold and are not they are being miss sold. I guess though there will be some get out. Have you contacted the store manager that should be your first point of call.
  • i agree with Cyberbob,

i would not and have not let my children have anything pierced (so far, they are 7 and 3)

the main reason being, i used to work in a jewellers and pierce ears. you know what training i had? no it wasnt a course lasting a couple of days, not lasting a day either, in fact i didn't go on a course - my manager told me in theory how to do it (with a gun) and a few practice shots into foam and off i went onto kids like yours, and not once did a parent ask me if i had qualifications or training on how to do it...

''The butterfly are magnetic, gold is not magnetic.'' did you not choose the type of earring and see it was magnetic? if so, why did your statement not click in your head before piercing? if not, you really should have checked the earrings out & asked those sort of questions before.

with regard to maybe being miss sold - you need to check out the fine print in the adverts they display - i should imagine it would be in there somewhere that posts are gold but not the butterflys - if not then yes you have been miss sold,

The butterfly not being gold will not cause an infection. An allergy, maybe, but not an infection.

You need to find out whether it is infected or not. If it is and you decide to complain then don't say it was caused by the jewellery as they will just laugh at you. It will be caused by a combination of bad piercing technique (which they won't admit to) and bad aftercare (which they also won't admit to).

But even if it is infected you're lucky. Guns can pass on blood borne viruses. HIV, Hepatitus etc
