Plusnet and Primus - Your Opinions Good/Bad

Hi all, am a newbie to the site as am in need of some advise on these 2 companies.

i am currently with sky, for all 3 tv phone broadband, however I want to cancel my sky subscription so need to find a new phone/broadband provider.

I can see both primus and Plusnet are cheap (or seem to be on the face of it) however after googling for reviews on them they tend to be fairly negative. Is this just because only people who have had negative experiences post reviews and you don't get to hear the good ones?

Anybody who are with these companies, I would be grateful if you could offer your experiences on them.

Thanks
sarah

I have had plusnet broadband for a couple years without any problems and could find nothing cheaper. Previously had sky and before that virgin (not cable) and had no problems with either, just switched to save money.
Plusnet value (if you are in a low cost area) is the cheapest, there is a usage limit of 10GB (up and downloads) but it's unlimited between midnight and 8am.
I do not have plusnet for line rental but I know they include 300 mins of international calls (top 20 countries) in their call package.
  • I've been on the Primus penny saver deal (they dont do this deal anymore) for a while now. My monthly bill is normally about £3.00 - so I have been really happy with them. I'm currently with BT for line rental, but am going to change that to Primus as well.
  • I have been with Primus for 5 months and have had nothing but problems with them. Firstly, they took nearly a month to get around to installing a new line after not being able to validate my address but they never called me to tell me there was a problem - I had to chase them.

Secondly, I moved house three weeks ago and even though there is a valid BT line there Primus STILL won't believe me.

Their communication is terrible, they never call or email (I was told this is policy) to tell you a problem. There are no itemized bills, no online account access. Indian call centres staffed with people who seem to know very little about telecoms and nobody seems to care about the customer at all.

As soon as my contract ends I will be leaving. AVOID!!!!!: mad:
  • I have primus for telephone and plusnet for broadband. Apart from the first bill from primus which charged me for weekend calls when they should have been free, no trouble with either. Offers on plusnet include getting moneyback from one of the savemoney sites so do not just sign up with main site.
Incidentally I got my call charges refunded following month after complaining (on0800 number)

    Totally agree with this.

Signed up via the deal on here for £8.99pm line rental on 25th July. Got an automated email with an account number and another to confirm direct debit details.

Got a letter from BT telling me my service would transfer to another provider on 9th August.

Heard absolutely nothing since then. Checked my bank details - they have set up a direct debit but took nothing. If I log into their billing thing it just says "Your first bill hasn't been generated yet"

BT haven't refunded me anything or sent a final bill so logged in to check and it seems they're still billing me.

Sent Primus a mail to ask what's going on. You can guess what i've so far got back. I'll give them a few more days til my BT bill arrives to confirm i'm still with them and if so request BT refuse any transfer.

I'd only save £30 a year, if it was as easy as just signing up that's fine, but it's just not worth the hassle to chase things (and possible future hassle if I want to change broadband on the line or anything)
  • Dont touch any broadband provider that uses a telephone line. The price hike coupled with slow mo speeds make this a no brainer.

I've found Primus to be fine so far - I hardly use the landline but have been using the inclusive evening and weekend call to people with poor mobile coverage. I have also used 18185 for international calls a few times. I also prefer the monthly billing (over BTs quarterly) as it means I never owe them too much.

So, by that "logic" anyone, like myself, who only has the telephone line (by that I assume you mean BT's copper wire and not fibre optic cable which is also telephone line) option for broadband have no brain? Thanks for that!

I'm maybe thinking of changing to Plusnet for broadband and calls.
I'm currently with BT for line rental and Orange for broadband, but have been having problems with orange for 1 months now.
I've currently been waiting 9 days and still no broadband with Orange, we have logged fault after fault with them.

One question is, if you get free calls with Plusnet, how does that work. Do you just use your BT phone which we have bought and dial out.
I've heard that with BT broadband and the hub phone that you have to go online to dial out.
    It's all confusing to me.
