Quite right.
But even if you cut it in half it is still more than many people in Lincolnshire would earn annually after tax.
Doesn't sound like he has much in the way of normal outgoings either! (ie rent, bills etc)Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
The main things that bother me regarding begging on the street...:
1) people who have a poor sad looking dog as an accessory. It makes me just want to go buy a cheap tin of dog food and let that be their donation.
2) Those annoying b@stard chavs who hang out around greggs etc coming up to you giving it the big sob story about how they missed their last bus home and are 50p short of the train fare. They are sooooo desperate and you are their last hope of ever returning home again. Agh!!! there was one little sheister who tried that trick on me 3 days in a row! He kept forgetting he had already targeted me.0 -

.
When i lived in Thailand, the government tried to make it illegal to give money to beggars.
This was because the streets of Bangkok are full of beggars with babies, instead of dogs. These babies are sold by their parents in Cambodia and Myanmar to !!!!! gangs, who then hire them out to professional beggars who use them on the streets. In most cases, the babies are drugged so that they stay docile during the day.0 -
Lots of beggars in Dublin, as mentioned before, and I was approached by a woman and, like PN, felt anxious about it. I began to wonder if Ireland has similar welfare benefits to the UK, and it worried me, and spoilt quite a few hours of my day.
As Generali says, there is no need in the UK for there to be beggars, and, indeed, it used to be illegal and police would move you away.
I would still not have given the Dublin beggar money as I don't like to take out my purse in the street. Never know what might happen next.0 -
People with babies wrapped up like a mummy get immediately told to f**k off.
People who look like genuinely needy get offered food.
In all my 30 or so years of being begged from, 1 person has accepted food from me, the 100's (well, probably 1000's) of others have mostly taken offence.
Thats why I hate beggars.0 -

This is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about, and exactly why I don't think people here who condone 'polite' begging have been on the receiving end of it much.0 -

Well that's not the case with me, I grew up in an area where begging was almost a career choice. Edinburgh was rife with them at one point.Herman - MP for all!0 -

How strange the MSE filter is. The word I wrote which came out as !!!!! was not a swear word, as you would expect, but in fact it was m.a.f.i.a.
Is the name given to criminal gangs originating in Sicilily and which have given us some iconic moments in cinema history considered an obscenity in the polite world that is MSE?0 -
