Has anyone taken an O2 400 contract with cashback?

If you have can you share your experience in regards to any of the following.
Porting - Could you do this online? I know at least one phone seller charges for porting to O2.
Is voicemail retreival free and if so how does it work?
Is there any any other that came up that was unexpected or different to what the deal said?
Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Old Gold,

I have recently taken out an O2 400 contract purchased through https://www.mobileshop.com on one of their 11 month free deals. Mobileshop allowed me to port my number through their website, but I opted out of this as they charge a £10 "admin" fee. I saw no point in paying £10 for something I can do myself, which is exactly what I did.

Even though their sales team say you need to port before you place the order that is crap. I have written confirmation that porting you number to O2 after you place the order will not affect the cash back in anyway.

Voicemail retrieval on the O2 400 package is indeed free as stated in my welcome letter from O2. It works by calling 901 from your O2 handset.

On top of the free voicemail retrieval O2 has given me free ITS (not even sure what that is). 100KB inclusive mobile internet browsing + an additional 5MB for the first 30 days.

Just to give some info on mobileshop. They registered my order with O2 on the day I ordered, which meant that not only did I receive the phone next day I was also automatically setup with O2. O2 sent me a link to their online billing page with my username and password. I then received the O2 welcome pack a day or two later and overall I'm very impressed by both O2 and mobileshop in their efficiency and would recommend both.

I have noted the thread regarding mobileshop cash back payment delays but to be honest I have called customer service at mobileshop 3 time, all 3 at mid afternoon, and I have got through in minutes. Also I have emailed them twice and received a response same day.

    I hope that helps,

    Spunky

are you sure voicemail is free? I got a phone from them (on O2 250) and voicemail is chargeable but if you have inclusive minutes, they can be used for voicemail.

Yes it's 100% free if you are on O2 400 or above. You have to pay for it if you are on a lower tariff like yourself.
  • Thanks Spunky and gtz101. I take it then Spunky you did not go through quidco. It is naughty that mobileshop charge this £10.
For me voicemail is important and probably I use that facility more than any other. I did not know that you could use your allowance on the 250 so that would bring that into my range again instead of just looking at the 400 for that reason.

Voicemail is listed as 20p on the Mobileshop site, on the 400 mins tariff.

Yes as I say these things are unclear as demonstrated by so many of us give a different interpretation. That price listing you are looking at though I think you will find is the tariff chargeable after your allowance has run out.

That's as may be, however the network provider is O2 and they clearly state both via customer service and in writing (yes that's right I have it in writing from O2) that voicemail is FREE on the O2 400 tariff.

I didn't go through quidco as my mate already ordered from them and I put him down as the referrer that way he should get £20 or £30. It's a bit unclear as they state £20 on their website but £30 on the written documentation I have.

Old Gold, should you still be in any doubt about voicemail costs, a call to O2 customer services will quickly sort that out: 0800 005005

  • Spunky you wont believe this but I did originally and they said this was down to the phone retailer. I swear if you speak to three different people from the same company you get four different answers.

It depends wh oyou buy it from. From CPW, O2 250 tariff, voicemail is free but if you buy it from any other shop its usually chargeable.

    Hiya

I took out a contract with o2 400mins 100 txt from CPW last thursday night and asked for my number to ported across, they took the pac code, and was told the date 2 oct of transfering, but they did not mention any fees for porting the number.

as for answering machine if you look at above price plan from o2 website anything over £35 a month, it's free.
