Ok, possibly the wrong board, but I wanted to get some ideas on what to buy someone for a moving in present, obviously as much on the MSE (cheap) as possible for still a lovely present, for a couple.
So I thought, could you let me know what the best house-warming or moving in present you ever got was?
Thanks!!

Home made cake & biccies.
It was all we ate til the new fridge arrived.0 -
My friend made me a really nice pretty card with a welcome to your new home poem on one side and a voucher for 3 hours unpacking and cleaning on the other! That was probably the best one, although the bottle of champagne left by our lovely vendors was a pretty close second.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Friends usually bring wine, Champagne, flowers or a pot plant (a friend bought me a lovely outside pot with flowers in). Unless it's family, people don't tend to go overboard these days. Don't remember anything amazing apart from cash from family! I think I got more when I moved into my first flat, but that was way back in the early '90s!
If you have a budget in mind, I'm happy to make some suggestions

Thanks all, yey to quick replies!! Keep em coming please.
I'm hoping to spend around £20 or under if poss and it is for family but I'm also really interested in what everyone's favourite gift was. If anyone has any suggestions that'd be fab too though!
I'll be helping clean and unpack anyway and I'm stealing the cookies idea too, thanks sooz.

Just googled 'home sweet home gift' and found this:

Something like one of these 'home sweet home' signs would be nice, maybe with a scented candle or flowers and a nice card. There'll be tonnes of other styles out there if you google, or check ebay.

PS just seen link didn't work for !!!!!!! so ignore me... or just google for suggestions. Will try it without the tiny url bit, but it's a bit big!: http://www.livelaughlove.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=home+sweet+home&osCsid=446c03dfe33eec625f585d3710a21dd22024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
The most inventive I've heard about was a toilet brush! Its one of those things that before you own your own home, you generally take for granted and never think to buy - they just sort of exist beside the toilet ... until it comes time to clean your own bathroom for the first time0

Maybe a luxury type thing if they're just starting out? Something they probably wouldn't have got themselves because cash will be tight, but something they would like all the same? I don't really know what they would like but £20 can definitely get you a nice towel bale or something? I remember my friend's mum getting me an M&S towel bale and I loved it because the only towels I had were 1 ratty cast off handtowel from another friend and a too small bath towel cast off from my grandma!
A new home starter pack? You could make it like a hamper (y'know, wrapping paper round a box type thing!) with loo roll, mugs, candles, anything they would like but don't have really. It depends if they have been living together before though!Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0
