I feel for you with the headaches. Also a long time sufferer but equally feel I need to address my nutrition!

I seem to be on a good run at the moment debtfree.

Well it's been a busy old week with one thing and another and lots of needing to split ourselves in two. I can't believe we have found ourselves at the 1st of the month again (there's another month knocked off!!) Showed dh some of the mortgage figures earlier and he's as motivated as me to try and beat our current goals. I think he's had his true lightbulb moment as to why I am so careful with our money and really try and make it work hard for us. He can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel and we are literally about 6 years away from potential mortgage freedom. I do need to ring the mortgage company tomorrow to reserve our new mortgage rate so that will be a nice update for the spreadsheet as planning to reduce the term by 5 years.

Not much else planned apart from keeping warm, I've never known a May bank holiday like it!

    May spends

    Supermarket £271.47
    Fuel £120.03
    June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!

I think my DH is the same recently. Knowing we might get mortgage free on the house move has really made him realise how all the OPs and the saving and careful spending adds up.

I can really see the difference in his mindset lately, he's always happily gone along with it but isn't a saver himself. We were discussing lack of holidays due to the current climate and he realised how much more beneficial that £4000 going to the mortgage will be. I've had a busy morning, I've claimed again dh's private health insurance (a work benefit) for an appointment dd has had so that money should land in the account soon. I've also rung the mortgage company about securing a new deal but typically for me I was a bit eager and need to ring back in 2 weeks. I've also pottered in the garden weeding, securing new climbers and repotting some of my border plants as seemed a bit overcrowded. I've also mowed the lawn and tidied the edging. I really don't know why I feel the need to completely sort the garden just before awful weather is forecast? I think in my mind it's so that it's in a good state so I can get straight back out there to enjoy it once the bad weather has passed.

I could do with some financial goals for May, we are ticking along nicely but I do love a challenge and I did notice our food spends really crept up last month, can't think of any obvious reason but it's something to keep an eye on this month.

Hope everyone is relaxing on this bank holiday.

Do your food spends go up when there are school hols in the month?

That's a very good point and likely explanation. Since I can't fill ds that's got to be it! Thanks Apple.

Well it's been a day indoors for us (apart from dh who was working) as the rain well abs truly arrived. I was so grateful I'd tackled the garden yesterday but I have to say I am looking forward to the return of some sunshine now. I feel for the local restaurants doing their best to remain open but it's not easy times at all.

Have a few jobs that need doing this month. We have arranged for gutter cleaning which isn't cheap but definitely an area of maintenance we need to remember to do as we've never had the gutters cleaned and do have some odd damp problems in a couple of corners. We've also decided to get an outside electric socket fitted but I really wish we had thought of it when we'd had the extension done. It's funny what you realise you need 5 years later! Dh also thinks he has a slow puncture so will get that sorted on his days off, am hoping a repair is enough as his tyres look expensive! This seems to be a post about spending rather than slaying the mortgage but there is still some plodding happening and today was a NSD.

Well it's been a busy week here with a few jobs done in the house. We finally managed to get rid of a pallet which was annoying me just sat in the front garden. A few outside jobs done including moving plants around, installing a new trellis to disguise an unsightly wall and a general tidy up. The garden seems to have appreciated the recent rain but we need the sun back now.

So onto mortgage news? We're really trying to get ourselves in a good position for securing a new rate this month and now we've reached our initial target I'm keen to see if we can reduce the term even further. It's still a work in progress so I sent another £75 and knocked another month off. £100 also sent to PB, I am not losing hope even though we are still awaiting our very first win.

We've also done some spending on boring but essential jobs. Have booked a window and gutter clean which isn't cheap but I dread to think what might come out of the gutters! I suspect there's a bit of moss up there as we often get some blowing into the bins and I can't think where else it might be coming from. Hopefully it will be money well spent but some no spend weeks would be good now.
