Just lost a big post as my laptop decided to re-boot
Had a strange week off this week, some very life changing events and have spent a lot of time preparing 2 rooms for a relative to come and live with us for a while. I was going to have the carpets cleaned but have given them a good hoover and will replace them once the rooms are emptied again.
Have completed a few admin tasks the last couple of days. £1.86 mortgage overpayment today as had a credit to account from current account cashback. Contacted mobile phone provider to add dh's phone to my account so that I can share data with him. Unfortunately this means there is now only one direct debit going out of his account so unless I find another one to switch, we will lose the £3 bonus. However, dh was going about £8 over his bill each month so we are already making a saving. I just don't like the thought of missing out on free money!
Also rang FD and can't secure a new mortgage deal until 13/10/18 so I will be keeping a very close eye on interest rates and mortgage deals.
Managed to get the jobs done I wanted at home and we now have a wonderful 'memoy wall' in our lounge and have put up a lot of photos and framed quotes. We were a bit extravagant and dh spent £20 on c0mmand strips, no cash though as he used the vouchers we were given for answering a recent survey at home. Have also re-created the sand feature I wanted to do and now have our collection in a large glass bowl. There is still plenty of room on the memory wall and for more sand to be added to the bowl too.
No alcohol for me again this evening, don't feel like it this week and it also hampers my weight loss. I am so close to where I want to be I don't want to delay it anymore! I am off to the races tomorrow for the first time so hopefully I will have beginners luck
Sold a couple of pieces of furniture this week too for £50 (helped to clear the rooms and can go towards this weeks unexpected childcare bill). Will check accounts again on Monday once dh has been paid and cb also goes in this week.

Great news on the new job Cath, a shorter commute is always good.
Have a successful day at the races - I hope you don't need your wellies:eek: xxOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.

We were lucky with the weather. There was a short shower but we definitely escaped the worst and even enjoyed some sunshine. Won a couple of races so ended up with £1.50 profit. Did however spend far too much money as was strongly encouraged to drink prosecco and we peers ordering it by the jug at an eye watering £35. Those £10 contributions soon added up. Prosecco also makes me ill which wasn!!!8217;t pleasant but I feel ok this morning (despite being awake since 4:30, I did sleep most of the evening too after getting in!!)
However, I had a lovely afternoon and good friendships were made even stronger by spending quality time together.
House is ready for our new addition but I am going to see if they want some help moving boxes today so that the big stuff can just be moved mid week. It will mean lots of car trips but will reduce the pressure on them next week.
Fallen a bit behind on steps this week so to hit my target if 105k for the week I need to do about 23k today. It is pouring with rain so no chance of getting out and about. Will see how many I can get in from housework.
Need to do a final check of accounts later before dh gets paid tomorrow. He is at work as we speak doing overtime which will go towards next months pay so nice to get some in the pot early on.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Quick post from me. Supermarket spends for the month currently £215.27 (includes cleaning items and alcohol) and have also made a £16.69 mortgage OP from a tcb payout.
House is pretty much sorted for our relative who is moving in for a while and I am also really looking forward to their company.
We appear to have overpaid/saved a lot of our wages and payday a long way off! My car in the garage on Thursday and I have a feeling it needs a fairly major repair. Fingers crossed my assessment is way off!!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Really tired tonight so very quick lost from me. Ate cheaply for dinner and my mum brought round a mince pie which I managed to fit into my tracking on mfp! Have done almost 12,500 steps today and about 10 minutes of upper body weights.
Big changes in our house tomorrow as relative moves in. We are all looking forward to it though. Spends need to remain low next few days but we are having take away tomorrow but hopefully got enough cash to cover that.
Tomorrow!!!8217;s plan is an early start to get a huge chunk of steps in before work (timed myself before and it only takes 6 minutes to do 1000 steps), a productive working day and then a relaxing and memorable evening.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Car needs major repairs!! Apparently pistons are gone and engine was completely dry. £1500 to repair! We currently have a courtesy car but I dont know what to do for the best. Car in current state would be worth about £1500 on a part exchange. Hopefully get an update from garage today. Any thoughts? Words of wisdom?
Relative going to give us £200 a month, has given us £100 but I am reluctant to send it to the mortgage as planned due to impending car repairs. We are away this weekend and child benefit hits account next week so can make some general budgeting decsions then.
Bit disappointed FD would not secure us a new deal especially as base rate increased and their rates quickly followed. Looking at 2.79 instead of 2.49% now.
Right, best get moving. Need to do some packing before work!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
If the car is worth 1500 part-ex as it is, and the repairs would also cost 1500, I'd grab the part-ex with both hands ! Now!!!
No guarantee that 1500 wil completely fix it.
No guarantee that the car will be worth 3000 once 'fixed'.
No guarantee that you can sell it for 3000.
No guarantee that it won't cost another 1500 next time something goes wrong...
Gosh, I'm rather negative - sorry! Does it show that we've been there and done/not done that?!
Bottom line - see what the garage says and make your own decision, cos my words are only my idea xNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Sorry for your loss Cath xMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
