Welsh students pay tuition fees - but at a much reduced rate to England (DD goes to Cardiff and her boyf is from 'The Valleys' so has a much smaller tuition fee loan. They also still have a system of some grants, as opposed to full maintenance loans, so DD informs me. (free prescriptions will apply for your DD2 if she goes to uni in Wales, but not the rest!) - we're close-ish yet so far, too - being in Glos :-/

There are lots of benefits to living here
This week really has flown and I've not had chance to come on here. Falling asleep at 8:15pm most evenings is not helping!
Frugal life continues apart from keeping on top of the washing and using the tumble dryer. I am considering getting a heated airer as we have quite a large utility room so it wouldn't be in the way. I'm just worried it won't be efficient enough.
Food spends remain low and as I'm now pescetarian most of our family meals are meat free! I think we're definitely getting into soup season so hoping to make some this weekend. Have to investigate which veg is on the super 6 at @ldi.
Have been watching tin st@r this week which is really good. If I hadn't kept falling asleep we would probably have finished it by now!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
The super six veg and fruit is great. We have been eating a lot more of it since they began to sell these and have tried some new things and created new veg recipes. Great on all fronts!Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
I very rarely use tumble dryer these days, I have a pulley and airer in Laundry (spare room/utility) takes the warmth of the house and dries things within 12-24 hrs, We don't use heated airer, but our daughter likes hers.Mortgage restart June 2018 £119950Re mortgage August 19 £110470, … Mortgage November 22 £85600 final 0% CC 3300Home renovations - £65000, mid 2018 - mid 20220

Energy is so expensive isn't it. Will try and keep on top of it so I don't have to resort to the tumble dryer.
Blitzed the downstairs yesterday whilst the children were at football so glad that's out of the way. So far this morning have done an online shop with Mr S as we had a £9 voucher so ordered bits for dd's party. The planning for a party from home is going surprisingly well! Have also claimed a free dvd from sky (go into sky store and Spiderm@n is free). We need to go to Cl@rkes for new shoes as didn't go before term due to going away. We'll tie it in with a quick trip to the zoo which is nearby to justify the petrol spends.
4 days until payday so frugal budget needs to be set. Haven't even looked at next months budget and hoping to pay a good chunk off credit card as regular saver has stopped so we have an extra £300 :j Still have our savings from last year in an account with no plans to spend. Maybe I should forget about it, it's in a 5% account so making its own money.
If I get time this weekend I will make some plans for the rest of the year to see what position we could be in for 2018.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
It's a fortune - am a little worried about energy bills this winter as we are losing our good rate - it's not going to be £20/month for gas anymore...
Looks like you're doing well though!0 -
All we can do is be mindful and not waste energy! I even hung some washing on the line as it was dry yesterday. Washing machine on the go now and football match for dd so it's never ending! Thank goodness they're not at the stage of 'sliding tackles'!
We had a very unsuccessful shoe shopping trip. Went for shoes for dd as hers are splitting, both childrens' feet have grown so got some for ds. There wasn't a pair in the shop to fit dd as she's between sizes and no styles fitted correctly! Credit to the fitter at cl@rkes for not just selling us a pair. He recommended high street so we popped to m&s as we have vouchers but again no shoes or boots fitted her! She doesn't seem to have a problem fitting into £52 football boots! :rotfl:
Didn't make it to the zoo as I was feeling really dizzy so had a quiet afternoon at home before I spent a few hours out with girlfriends. Drank water, drove and ticket was paid for last month. Had a brilliant evening with plenty of laughter
Youg0v survey done this morning, cc payments up to date from stoozing. Party planning for dd well underway although she only has two presents from us (sharpies and a dvd - thoughts??????) She is excitedly counting down the sleeps. 3 days until payday and we have money left in the account. Not quite enough to buy the 3 new car tyres we need though!!
DH is at a carboot sale as he bought a bundle of dvd's and is hoping to double his money! He used funds from current account so we have actually done better than we thought this month!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
You're right, currently the cat and I are curled up under a blanket while I try and avoid turning the heat on.
Sometimes I wonder if it's worth pushing for the teams to play in brown and green kits to hide the stains!
Any other shops that might sell between sizes? Or hopefully she'll quickly grow into the next size up.0
