Oh right it's as easy as that?! No not in a minimum contract anymore so might give them a ring them!
Thanks for the info!0 -
Do what I'm about to.
Cancel sky, buy a freesat HD box for around £90. This just connects to the existing satellite dish.
These boxes not only recieve the free HD channels, they can also uplift the sd signal to much better quality. So, if you have a hd ready tv, take advantage......:DHappiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
isnt sky broadband free if you have your tv with them and their line rental is cheaper too. we pay £40 to sky and that includes tv no sports or movies, line rental unlimited landline calls and broadband0

It does sadly vary according to where you live. We are on the edge of getting any broadband at all. I need it for work and therefore pay BT rates because they can't pass the buck and have to support it.
Have swapped sky for an HD recorder tho, just plugs in and no need to climb up ladders :-)
Whereabouts in the country are you flossie?0 -

Just looking at ways to reduce our monthly income so that I could comfortably go part time after maternity.
Whilst doing so i realised we have some big costs and it's just made me angry to realise we have to pay more for things because of where we live so just wanted to rant!
We currently pay £37 to sky plus our phone rental to BT of £12.00 and our broadband to BT of £15 per month so a total of £65 for these services.
Whilst we can (and will be) losing sky sports to bring the sky down to £18, because of the area we live in no tv signal can be recieved so we have to have sky if we want a tv (digital and freeview don't work here either and there is no cable)
Also because of the area we live in and something to do with the exchange we don't qualify for any of the deals for broadband/phone/sky inclusive or the cheap offers from people like O2 (who my mobile is with). so the BT package is actually the cheapest we can get
We also pay the highest water bills in the country (50%) higher than some places
Does anyone else find it unfair that you can't qualify for certain deals and have to pay more just because of where you live?
gahh it just bugs me - not expecting any replies just needed to rant!
i found that where i live, i am not elegible for all of skys great deals. the exchange i live in is completely owned and occupied by bt. and they are the most expensive.
i discovered, from MSE, that as of some time last year, we as customers are no longer held to contract over landline rental and can now pick and choose whenever we feel like it to chance provider.
so being an orange mobile customer, i approached them and got a good deal on cross net broadband and home telephone. this included a £30 mobile account credit and a month free of telephone and broadband.
im not sure how good u-switch are for comparing water rates, utilites etc. i live in scotland and these are included in the council tax rates.0 -
Hey all, thanks for the tips!
thechippy - unfortunately our tv is not HD ready - it's about 10 years old. Maybe the tv fairy will visit me one day!!
Re the combining broadband, I did ask sky and they quoted me £30 per month for the broadband alone (so on top of the sky bill) because of our exchange in our area. I then tried O2 as it was £7 with them if you were a customer (which I was/am), phoned them up and as soon as I gave postcode it was "sorry, that price doesn't apply in your area, it'll be £27 per month". In the end only Bt could do it for under £15 per month - rubbish!
But will definately look into freesat so thanks for that tip!0 -
sorry, haven't read all replies, might be repeating but....
i cancelled my sky package, haven't bought any boxes ,or any cards etc and i get loads of channels -for nothing!!??
hope this can work for you. it was actually the sky man who cancelled my plan that told me this would work.0 -

so technically you get your freeview through your sky box? interesting. i'll keep that in mind should i not want my sky.0 -
yes,thats right.i was very surprised (and pleased!).0

Years ago when we cancelled sky we kept the dish, box and had to pay for a card...we get a reasonable number of channels. Without this the reception here makes tv unwatchable.
Bt only no cables or other provider, no mains drains, no public transport..but hey that's the price of rural living.0
