I have a Rowenta Proffessional iron
bought it in Tesco £34.its quite new
it fills very easily, has a good selection
of steam options including a shot of steam
for anyone who wants to spray steam things on
hangers to get creases out.It irons the most
delicate to really badly creased heavy cotton
items.Never burned anything yet or for that
matter myself.Worth every penny I paid for
it and my main reason for buying it is because
it was the same as my previous iron that had
worked well for nearly 18 years, sadly this was
accidently dropped from a great height and well
it was too damamged to get repaired. They still
have this model in Tesco.Definatly a good buy

I've got a phillips steam iron, paid about £70 last year, they are great as said before they cut the ironing time by at least half. I hate ironing but think that the money was very well spent, everything you iron only needs one pass over with the iron. you don't even need to do both sides of jeans. The thing to look out for as far as im aware is the bar pressure the higher the better.

I've got an Phillips Azur 4020, which IIRC wasn't very expensive and does a reasonable job. Well, it did last time I actually used it.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Hinari Lifestyle Manual Steam Press. this is what I use. It's particularly quick for sheets as you can fold it twice so it's only a quarter the width and zap it through in no time at all.
We got ours when Argos were having a catalogue change and it was half price. Ours isn't a Hinari but is called "Challenge" Not sure I'd want to pay full price but for £75 it was a bargain.

I use it for everything but my other half prefers to use a normal iron for smaller stuff. But that maybe because I like to iron while sitting down and she prefers to stand.

I use a Philips Provapor steam generator iron. It holds one litre of water and will do 1.5 hours of non stop steam ironing. It cost me £70 brand new from an ebay shop and it does a fantastic job of the ironing, I can highly recommend a Philips brand iron.

Hi, we are currently looking at geting a steam generator iron. The Which report gives this best buy (although they didn't test the other two we were considering so not that helpful!). The report says the cord is a bit short. If you work with the steam part on the floor does the length of the cord compromise your ironing? i.e is it annoyingly short?

My washer's got a variable spin (from 400 to 1450), when I wash cotton shirts I set the spin to 400 so there's hardly any creases. Cotton/poly mix t-shirts are spun on 1450 and they steam just fine.

The washing is dried on hangers too :D

Thinking we will go for the Tefal 2932 steam generator iron which is currently £50 off at Comet according to their website. Will cost £129.99.

Can anyone tell me if they know where to get a better price on this or any reason not to get it (i.e if you bought it and hate it!). It has good spec so think (after ages staring at the PC screen!) will go to Comet and buy one tomorrow afternoon as it seems to be best one for our needs. It has 2200 watts, ceramic sole plate, 100g/min steam etc etc

One other question - have you guys bought the mesh ironing boards to use with your steam generator irons or do get on ok with normal ironing board??

I've got a lady down the road who does mine, apparantly she charges for it but the missus pays; so I make that all my ironing @ no cost (to me!):T Cheaper than a steam generator by far:p
