Ironing query (merged threads)

  • I have a Morphy Richards JetSteam Generator - cost £80 from HoF. Before that I had a similar one from Aldi (£40) but that broke after about a year. At the time I thought the Aldi one was good but now I have the MR one, I wouldn't go back to it. If you are seriously thinking about buying one, please consider the following:

    1. How easy can you refill the iron with water?
    2. Do you have to switch it off whilst you re-fill (this is a pain, particularly if you then have to wait about 10 mins for it to heat up before you can use it again (had to do this with Aldi one).
    3. How many gsms of steam (output of steam) - more the better - our current MR one has about 80-90

If u have any more questions, you are welcome to PM me. If I think of anything else, I'll post here.

I had a steam generator for a few years, great but really bulky and took up a lot of storage space. I have gone back to a regular iron, this one has a ceramic soleplate and I find it really good.
  • hate ironing & avoid whenever poss but i got a Tefal superglide 60 steam iron last year (mainly cos it was purple:p ) and it seems pretty good, my mum thinks its great so anytime she comes to stay i save up all my ironing and she does it all for me - she actually enjoys it:eek: !! [STRIKE]i think it was about £30[/STRIKE] scratch that, just found the receipt, it was on sale in Powerhouse, £20. i did look at steam generators when i was buying but i thought they were very bulky and not worth the extra money for all i need it for (only me to iron for) probably be more worthwhile if you do a lot more heavy duty ironing - bed linen/curtains etc:confused:

Got a steam generator - Tefal Express
    Me too.

The amount of steam the iron shoots out means I don't need an ironing board, I just put everything on hangers and steam them as they hang, much much easier and quicker.

  • I STILL have my first iron when i moved in with hubby (10 years old now). It is a moulinex and was £36.00 from Argos. If and when it finally goes, i have an iron ready and waiting to use, as it connects to a steam generator.

Used to have a Morphy Richards steam gen a few years back- cost £100+ broke after a year. I'm back to using a cheap steam iron, I found having to switch off and wait 10 minutes every time you wanted to fill up the tank a pain & Its was absolutely no use for low temps, kept scorching my woolens.

  • The Which report gives the Philips GC6103 Provapor Azur Doublespeed as a best buy at about £80. I think I read somewhere that it gives out 70 units of steam per whatever (didnt take any notice, lol, but 70 is the key bit)

I dont know if it tested the Tefal one, but I think thats quite a bit more expensive isnt it?

Anyway, I'm most intersted in Troo's post. The idea of hanging everything when dry and then steaming it on the hanger as opposed to ironing it really appeals to me!

Troo - and anyone else who does this - do the clothes appear to have been properly ironed doing it that way? If you needed something to look especially good, would you revert to ironing or would steaming do the job just as well?
Do you know what output the tefal one has?
Any other advice would be great

    Thanks,
Fed up of ironing for a family of five who put anything they see in the laundry basket to avoid having to put it away, Mumxx

Troo, i too am intrigued, say for example you have a shirt that just come out of the wash, creased to timbucktoo and back!

hanging it up and using the steam on it, will it make it look like it has been ironed? i.e no creases?

We have a Phillips with a ceramic plate and it's really good. Irons with ease. Wouldn't go back to a metal plate one now. Worth every penny - was about £40 in Argos sale.
