That is NET Framework, not Windows XP SP2. The answer is here.

I'm guessing that you won't understand it. Will take a look at it when I get back.

Hmmm...I'm not altogether sure that that you have followed the directions. But let's see what happens. We can always uninstall and begin again.

I suspect that the failed SP2 reinstall is hanging and that won't allow SP3 to install. You have posted the failed SP3 pic very soon after the failed SP2 attempt.

Try restarting your PC, and then run the SP3 install to see if that works.

If none of this works, it's time for a Factory Restore.

This worked for me, it's official advice from Microsoft.
Remove .NET Framework using removal tool

    1. Please download the tool from the following link:

    2. Please save the zip file (dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip) from the above link to the local Desktop and extract it.
    3. Double click cleanup_tool.exe to run the tool.
    4. Please follow the instructions given.
In the "Product to cleanup:" box, please select ".NET Framework - All versions".
    5. Click "Cleanup Now" button.
    Please reinstall .net framework programs:
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)

  • Many thanks for replies but it seems not to want to be repaired LOL.... Mary I down loaded the repair tool and ran it OK, I also downloaded the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86)

the first on installed OK but got a message with the second download saying with a error message I will put on here later for information.
