Checked the Control Panel? How so? Reloaded the CD? Did you fully reinstall the Operating System? You need to give us the exact message received.
  • Donnie, I ran the windows cd but I have another 2 other cd that came with the computer one called applications and one drikver and untilites .. both say allready instaeed on my computer but since then the SP2 package needs repair now. Do I run the application one??
  • SP2 is a service update from Microsoft (SP = Service Pack), generally just a bunch of updates and drivers all bundled together, you may be able to find it on Microsoft's website as a download.

Does Media Centre have an SP3? You might be trying to install SP3 for Windows XP which is why it's not installing.

I've never used Media Centre but surely it has an update process within it that will take you to the correct Microsoft Update site?

You keep mentioning a repair that is needed but you haven't yet told exactly what error message you are getting. The Dell (laptop?) you bought will have a recovery partition and in the documents you received with it, it will tell you how to use that partition to take the computer back to its original state, usually CTRL and F11 on Dells.

If you want help be more precise about what you are doing and what messages you are getting.

Media Centre is Windows XP Pro with a bit on top.
