  • Have you looked at the SS stats for dealing with disabled parents. I had plenty of proffesional experience knew the system inside out, didnt stop us being screwed over.

Not scaremongering just a lot of reading up on disabled parents asking for help and never seeing their kids again. Even on these boards we have evidence of such a situation. As I said your choice after all babies are so easy to adopt out.

This is a last resort. I have a friend who is autistic and has a disabled son. SS haven't taken his son away from him. They do whatever they can to keep families together.

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • CAF also means Common Assessment Framework - used to assess the needs of a child. I think this is the likely meaning in this case, as Contact A Family are a charity to help families with disabled children, and the OP is a disabled parent.

Those were the two acronyms I knew, I didn't think the framework was the right one to fit what Ali was talking about but I am often wrong :) I will speak to my HV, she has talked about additional support before now but I've always resisted. Too stubborn and proud to admit that I need it!

    Hi guys,

Can I ask if anyone can tell me what help there is out there to parent as effectively as a non-disabled person? My husband is working away mon-fri for the next 6 weeks (and the last 7) and it is a huge struggle. My walking is terrible right now so we can't go out without another adult to help, and there isn't anyone. So we are pretty much stuck indoors. I have contacted adult SS and referred myself in but when I asked about help to parent (which I believe they are supposed to provide?) they got very vague.

So any guidance, help or advice would be hugely appreciated, I am feeling pretty much at rock bottom right now :(

You may approach both really but adult services may be a better bet. I thought they would need to do a 'Carer's assessment'.However, children maybe able to advice as well.
