Yeah Auto Express
I have the issue at home, the bigger Focus Econetic and Golf bluemotion did better mpg than the smaller polo bluemotion and the like.
I can dig it out tonight and post the details, their website just refers to buying the magazine.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

All the advances in safety they fit tyres with no grip to reduce fuel consumption.
Is it me or does anyone else think thats mad? I would rather use an extra 1mpg and
get to mt destination safely rather than trying to drag the car out of a ditch because
i couldnt keep up with the traffic on a bend.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Its the skinniness has caused it. Its a shame because the ones on my passat were grand - michelin energies or something - grippy and (supposedly) improved economy.0 -
Depends on how big you are, I certainly would not want to be doing 30k a year in a car the size of a Polo. It'll do it no problem, just its a bit small for the job. What are the NCAP ratings as well? I havent looked but would assume the Golf / Passat would have higher than the Polo, something to think about if you are spending that much time on the roads0

OH has been doing 30k + miles for the past 4 years in a Citroen C3 - comfort wise, anything is up for him :rotfl:
Would be interested in those figure BenL - thanks.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I would not buy a VW as they are overpriced. A new Ford can be had with large discounts via online brokers and sometimes from dealers themselves.
You have to forget just about the MPG but consider the whole cost of ownership which includes your tax position, mpg, servicing, depreciation etc.
I would be looking at a low emission vehicle which you can write down 100% in year one such as the Fiesta Eco whatever with sub 110 emissions I think.
It really is a much bigger argument than a pure mpg issue.0 -
I have a Golf Bluemotion, 10 plate, waited 4 months for it, it came in at about £18.5k which included some extra's of about £750. I have now done about 8500 miles, and have averaged about 68mpg, which has been taken from brimming the tank and keeping note of the mileage for each tank. I'm getting in the region of about 750-800 miles per tank, would probably get more too, but I don't like taking it down too far.
I'm only doing about 35 miles each way to my work, which is half A class roads and half motorway. On the smaller roads, I'm averaging about 40-50mph, and on the motorway I stick to around 60mph(can't usually do much more than this due to volume of traffic). The longest run i've has is about 100 miles each way and I was getting decent mpg on it.
I also have a long run in a few weeks time down to Devon, so can't wait to see what it does on a 450 mile leg trip pretty continuously.
Another thing to remember is the horsepower of the car, the polo is only about 80ps, whereas the Golf is 105ps.
I also save because of no road tax, and if you don't go for the £250 three year service deal from VW, he can get the car servicing set on the computer for I think time and distance for daily journeys of more than 50 miles(they recommend) it works out that you'd get services done at about 18k miles, but it could be less depending on how the car is driven. Thanks to all the competition posters.0
