Blimey - I leave the computer for a couple of hours and you've solved it. Well done everybody.

Just what I was going to say. Look away for a while, come back and it's done.
Great teamwork. Well done everyone. :T:T:T

I was the first person to get their "Riddle of the Day" correct yesterday.
    Shame there's not a prize.

hmm why has the thread has bee moved into regulars? It doesn't really matter this month but there's no way this would work as a regular post. It would get completely unwieldy and the regulars threads always get locked? Might have been an accident.

I still want to know the answer to the fish scale one. That's bugging me and they still haven't put it up on the site.

Just what I was thinking. If it had been moved earlier some regular contributors may not have found it. Personally, I don't think that ANY monthly comps should be considered as regulars and should all go on the main board. As I rarely go into the regulars there's probably lots of comps that used to go on the main board that I don't see any more.

Anyway, is everyone happy with Westoe Lodge as the answer? I've just got a niggling doubt at the back of my mind because it doesn't look as if there is an actual physical place or building of this name. Westoe Lodge seems to be the name of the local Freemasons chapter who's headquarters are in a building called Freemasons Hall.

Being as they say you can enter daily, do people keep entering the answer every day for the rest of the month?

looking at it in the light of day, I have slight doubts too, I didn't realise the Lodge wasn't the name of the building. I just can't see where else we could go?

To the west the former Westoe Lodge was once surrounded by woodland of which 7 a. survived c. 1840.

That seems to suggest an actual place or thing as it was surrounded by woodland?

Yes but "former" suggests it is not Westoe Lodge now. And this is talking about a site in Cambridgeshire and not South Shields.

I agree about the 'former' thing, I'd thought that myself when I found it.

I'm not sure that it couldn't be a different place in the UK though, because all we're getting from the '03 WHERE HE SETTLED' is the word Westoe? I think we could jump to another place called Westoe Lodge even if it's not in the Westoe where he settled? :o

The wiki link says that he did come from South Shields and his estate when he died went to the South Shields Marine College so it's reasonable to think that the Westoe he retired to was in South Shields.
What does the 03 refer to? Edit: Oh 1803 when he retired. It must be right up to here so I can't see how Westoe Lodge can be wrong, but...... Perhaps Cash Hunt thought the Lodge was a building and didn't realise it was a Feemason's Lodge.

Glad to see we're out of relegation, thanks BG :D

I agree with bargainhuntergal that all we need to take from the clue is Westoe and theoretically the lodge could be in another Westoe, but I can't find any other Westoes or Westoe Lodges apart from scant mention of one that used to stand in Cambridgeshire in historical records.
